I have a lifetime average of 54.0 mph......and it takes a heavy foot to average 66 mph!!!

Ok, where's the life time average?!? That 66 was just on that tank(s) average. Remember I have 81.5 gallons on board...and no women on board that trip!

Plus my 28 year old son was driving!!

So I have 34.96 total, 47.35 driving, with only 2273 miles on it. 65 hrs total. 17 hrs idling!
I must have wrote the 66 mph average down wrong! Kinda looks like it was probably 56 mph....sheez...

26% idling! What has had you idling so much?

Lol...I knew that was comming. It's cold here (& TX) and it's a new truck. Just trying to figure everthing out on the controls on this thing is time consuming. I was getting a low voltage warning on some features (air suspension) and wound up starting it to go through the process. Then on this last trip it was idling while filling (60+ gallons) and start up acct. a 4 yr old grandson.

The further north one lives, the higher the idle time. Like today, -24C, truck runs for about 10-15 minutes before I drive off. And my drive to work is only 13 km's and takes 13 minutes to do. So during the winter for me I'm almost 50-50 idle/drive!! I just can't get into a cold truck and drive it without some warm up.

It is so much worse for the engine to do that thou. Anything over 10 minutes is considered excessive by Cummins and not recommended, at most 3-5 minutes is all Cummins wants. It's cold, but use a block heater and save the wear and tear and wasted diesel $$.

With the way dealerships have been treating idle time on the 6.7 it's not worth it for warranty purposes either.

Around 100 minutes of block heater operation with a winter front is adequate, even on 0°F and colder days to get the block above 80°F.

Or around the clock! Some of us don't have normal jobs or retired yet Sno! :-laf

Too much money for me.

While $1.50/day doesn't sound like much it would have been a 67% increase in my power consumption last month to have the truck plugged in 24/7.

All above is true......my point was that some don't know when to plug them in. (time of day)

Mine is plugged in 24/7 when it is below freezing. And when it's more than 10 below freezing I also plug in the oilpan heater and the transmission pan heater as well. 5 minutes of idle doesn't even move the gauge, but at 10 minutes there is heat and the gauge is about 1/3-2/3rds of the way up. I don't really care what the power cost, I want it ready to go when ever I need to go. This is part of the reason they idle up on there own is to deal with the low combustion temps at idle so that they burn the fuel better and create heat. Ultimately I'd rather not idle much either.

Texas ,AGAIN!
