Payload Enhancement Ideas?

sat dish feedhorn - any fold for storage?

Actually I'm gonna throw in my $. 02 for what it's worth.

Stay away from Airridehitch.com

This guy actually stole the patent from someone else's product and started selling it. The owner was taken to court and lost.

The real Air Ride Hitch is made by Easy Rider. I have been in a truck that had one of these installed and I was very impressed with it's performance. The fifth wheel that we were pulling actually seemed easier to pull. . being that the air pistons were absorbing most of the weight.

Once the funds permit... I will be purchasing one for my truck!!

I looked at the sight but I couldn't find anything about cost. What do they normally run?

I also think they are very pricey. I know a couple of their references personally. The world champion bulldogger is a friend of mine that still lives in Oklahoma. Next time I go up there I will get the low-down on it.

DUALLYMAN:

K_Arts is exactly right. The Air Ride Hitch is an illegal product and they are being sued by Easy Rider Hitch. I have been to the Easy Rider Hitch Factory in Wewoka Oklahoma many times and met with the owners. They are great guys and make a good product. I'm going to get set up as a dealer and try to peddle their hitches so realize that I am biased. They are pricey and I've talked to them about that but do think they are worth the money and I know what it takes to make one so can't argue too much yet. I'm trying to get them to make me a special low profile hitch for my too high 4WD which they said they will look into. There are a couple of other air cushioned hitches out there and I will investgate them all as I can. Gene McCall in New Mexico makes one that lookes good, also custom beds. If I can help you with your decision just drop me a line and I'll share what research I've got.

Thanks Charlie, I talked to Steve Cates a couple of times on thursday and i placed my order for the EASYRIDER HITCH w/shock mounts. They are pricey, but so is a good truck. When posted my topic earlier about AIRRIDE HITCH I knew about them because they are just few miles up the road. I was trying too find out if they worked as good as I heard they do. ALL OF YOU FELLOW CUMMINS FANS THAT REPLIED BACK TO ME, I APPRECIATE THE RESPONSE!!!

Charley is what I meant to spell. Sorry man. I just put my new X-Mounts on and the new E-brake. Everthing works good. The mirrors don't shutter none at 30mph on rought dirt roads or going 75mph on highway. I'm very satisfied with mine if anybody was wondering. And that E-brake, I don't see how I did without them.

I just got the Easy Rider, Wewola, OK video and info packet. Am wondering what's the difference between the air ride only hitch and the shock-mounted one? Neither the literature nor the video ever explains the difference. (I'm looking at their model AR15K vrs. the AR15K-SM. The list cost is $2850 vrs. $3100. )

Are the added shocks worth it? Doesn't the added complexity reduce reliablity/life expectancy? One of the things I can say about my plain old Reese 5th wheel hitch is that it's simple and reliable. (But sure would like a smoother ride both in the truck and in the trailer. )

Vic, It is my understanding that all hitches are airride. The shock mount is an option you can get to mount shocks on. The shocks take out some of the abuse the airbag normally gets by itself.
Call EASYRIDERHITCH they are good people. They will tell you anything you want to know.

thanks larry. i have been looking at the keldreman 4 link system and i like it. i'm towing a 24 ft toyhauler up to 9000lbs gross trailer wt behind a new 1 ton, srw, sb. the truck only drops about 1. 5 inches in the rear. i think the overload spring is what is causing me some discomfort on on certain streches of the highway. if my hunch is correct the rough stretches of road are bouncing me off the overloads (which are not generally engaged in my situation) pretty good at times. other than that the ride is very reasonable. i think if your not carrying a bunch of weight in your bed constantly loading the overload springs they are more of a detriment than a positive. in other words big load or no load and there fine although with the big load your going to have a nice squat i believe. at this point my solution is to ditch the overload springs and possibly throw on an easy rider reciever style hitch for good measure. ? does anyone have an opinion on this TT hitch?

regards,

If the Easy Rider receiver hitch works as well as their fifth-wheel hitch then the answer would be an enthusiastic YES!

One good thing about the wonderful folks in Wewoka - they offer a 30-day money back guarantee.

If you don't like it, ship it back and they'll refund your money - no questions asked.

They're pricey, but IMNSHO they're worth at least every cent that they charge.

I have the McCall Air-Glyde hitch on my truck. My pin weight is about 3300lbs (yea, I'm overloaded a bit). Without the Air-Ride the trailer beat the heck out of us. With the air-ride, we ride better and the trailer rides better. The McCall has front to back air bags as well as vertical bags. It really reduces the push-pull of the trailer on the truck. Also, the McCall lets you add and remove air while you are towing so you can adjust the distance between the truck and trailer if you need to. The only downside of the McCall is that you have to create a custom mounting bracket and that means welding to the frame. My hitch installer is reluctant to mount my McCall into an '03 so I'm either sticking with the '01 or moving to (God Forbid) a Pherd 450.

Bob,

If you take a copy of the TSB to your installer, he may change his mind: welding IS permitted on the '03 frames.

According to the TSB:

"WELDING:

Prior to welding, the following must he done.

1. Avoid welding near, the fuel tank, fuel and brake lines or other components that may be damaged by the heat of welding, If R is necessary to remove the fuel tank, lines or other components, do it In accordance with applicable service manual procedure.

2. Components near the welding area which could be damaged by excessive heat must be removed or adequately shielded.

3. Disconnect the battery(ies)

4. Precautionary measures should be used to prevent electrical system components or wiring damage.

5. Frame E-coating must be removed from the weld area prior to welding. Use proper welding techniques to avoid stress risers that may adversely affect frame performance.

AFTER WELDING:

1. Carefully inspect electrical components and wiring for shorts or other damage.

2. Apply an anti corrosion protective coating to the areas where the coating was removed. "

As you can see, there's no barrier to welding on an appropriate mount for your hitch! :D

Reese Titan + Class 5 Airhitch rocks!!

I have the Easyrider Airhitch set up for my Class V receiver and it's been great for the past couple of years. The only thing I was not totally happy about was the durability of the factory finish, which after a couple of heavy winters and all other sorts of indifferent weather in general, has taken its toll.

I will post some LHS/RHS and rear photos later here to show you what I mean.....
