Oil Bypass Filters

Best Dry Filter

BTW Guys,

I don't like asking 'dumb' questions but, I due occasionally drain off the water separator and if I'm thinking correctly diesel fuel will float on top of water?

Hence, when we unscrew the knob on the bottom of the water trap it begins to leak off fuel and once the knob is fully unscrewed the 'inner stem' drops down and I assume we are scavenging off the water at the bottom of the trap.

Doing this efficiently means doing this after the vehicle has been sitting static for a period of time such as in the morning before operating the vehicle. Therefore, allowing time for the water to separate and I assume settle to the bottom.

Guys... am I trying to make this too hard? Am I thinking correctly?

Also... you know... . I never see any water... . I'm thinking I don't know how to look at this. Am I lame?... or am I just lucky by purchasing good fuel all the time?

You are correct, diesel floats on water, just as most oils.

You might not see any water as I didn't see more than a drop or two for a year until just recently. Then in a single tank started draining water... about two quarts to date...

They do not need to set to drain... I drain mine while I'm fueling up... I use a small glass jar to inspect for beads of water.

FWIW, don't slack on draining your WS...

Oh, and I don't own a AirDog just a FASS... but the premise is similar.

I ran across this thread, while doing a search for AirDog replacement fuel filters; thanks to the guys who did their research.

I'm incredibly surprised that I was able to access the TDR... . the Air Farce must be slacking on their Forum Nazi duties... normally I can't access the TDR when I'm at work.

That said, I experienced my first "Water in Fuel" light yesterday... really caught me by surprise, since I just had the AirDog installed a few weeks ago. Not to worry, I shut the truck off, coasted to the side of the road, got out and crawled under and opened the petcock on the water separator until I smelled diesel. Got back in the truck and all was well.

In reading back to the beginning of this the reason Fleetguard doesn't recognize the name "AirDog" is because it is a model as is " SuperDog ". Fuel Preperator is the company name. I just bought one for my 12v but it will be a while before it gets installed. Shadrach

Water seperator cross

Did anyone ever find out the what filter we can use for the water seperator yet?
Thanks.
Greg

The water separator used on the AirDog is a wire screen. Don't replace it or throw it away, just drain it. Once in a while, take it off and shake it out and rinse it.

I need to get my vendor thing changed, to AirDog, Fuel Preporator, or maybe put PureFlow Technologies or something. anyway, for any technical questions you can call the PureFlow office or PM me for any AirDog questions.

Thanks,

Charlie

As stated before the AirDog FF80 crosses over to FLG FF5587 ( 7 micron ) or FF5617 (10 micron ) I wouldn't use the FF5613 ( 5 micron ) in the winter, at least not up here. The WS 80 crossesover to a FS19768, which is a 140 micron stainless steel wire mesh srceen. Shadrach

I just wish they would add some radio filters ie caps to the motor so that it wouldn't make so much noise coming through my CB radio. Once I shut the truck off my CB has absolutely no buzzing or RF noise at all. One MAJOR improvement that they should add.

Hmmm, this was something someone else noted on the FASS also, but I get no noise?

Have you tried grounding things?? Is your coax ran near the pump??

As far as draw straw installation is concerned... many people think the fine silk like mesh screen in the factory fuel module pickup is simply a filter of sorts. Which it is. But its more than that.

The return to the fuel tank ends up in the center of the module... which is actually quite the large deal. Its like a large cylinder with alot of volume.

The cylinder fills with fuel and overspills in the rest of the tank when full. Now when your fuel tank is low, very low, and fuel sloshes around, your lift pump or whatever your using, draws fuel from around the bottom of the fuel module as usual. The actual inlet is surrounded by this mesh in a grid frame. When fuel sloshes away from the inlet... whatever volume is held by the module runs out the bottom and floods the inlet of the pickup line. This volume of fuel leaves the module in a controlled flow to give the sloshing fuel time to return. The mesh is what slows this flow out into the tank and allows the inlet to be immersed in fuel. And it is really more like a film than a mesh. Its super fine weave. Like thin silk.

Then the return to tank line fills the module back up all the while. Most who remove the screen will never notice a difference anyhow and its no major loss except under the most extreme of circumstances.

Even with maybe 1/16th tank... its nearly impossible to leave the inlet high and dry unless your on a severe slope. Its just the design of the tank and the position of the fuel module account for that.

Hey CEkstam... I remember along time ago when I was doing lift pump mods, work and all kinds of stuff on here you contacted me about the new AirDog unit that was coming out. You wanted me to try one out or something like that but you never got back with me. But I'm glad to see they seem to be working.

I went with a 1st gen truck anyhow. Love those mechanical lift pumps.
