Member LNaugle has stated there has been Aison transmission failures/problems, I have not heard of any and wonder if any TDR members have had problems? I respect LNaugle's opinion, just wondering if there has been any failures?

I've never read or heard of one.

The fact that Ram has selected the Aisin as transmission of choice in the new Max Tow 30,000 lb. GCWR Ram dually with 800 ft. lb. engine is a pretty strong statement.

The fact that Ram has selected the Aisin as transmission of choice behind the new Max Tow 30,000 lb. GCWR Ram dually with 800 ft. lb. engine is a pretty strong statement.

That's like saying they chose the G56 on there 3500's because of there strength ... ... ... ... . Oh wait... ... .

AEdelheit, in 07, the two choices were the G56 or the Aison for the 3500 C&C, and I believe still are. The Aison was known in other markets, but was a made in Japan option. I thought there might be issues later down the road when coupled to the mighty CTD, and it was an auto. The G56 on the other hand, was a trans proven in South America with Mercedes MDT's. My preference is standard transmissions, and even though I was disappointed the NV5600 was no longer available, the Mercedes option seemed to be the better option. I think the main reason for the weakness of the G56 is the gearing our light duty trucks have for the Highway MPG. The Aison on the other hand seems to have beaten out the G56, but with some modifications the G56 can compete. If the user's truck stays stock and never uses it over Dodges GVWR then it should be fine. My trans was trouble free until my ECM program was changed and now when in regen my engine surges out of control after 2000 RPM when accelerating. I will now have to install a stronger clutch plate and disks (SBC DD3250) with the solid flywheel, and as a precaution will install a girdle as well.

The reason for starting this thread was a comment by another TDR member, that the Aison have had problems, and I have never read about any.

My comment was regarding another posters flawed logic on there posts. I have had a G56 and replaced a few, I feel they are ok but far from great, 2 weeks ago I had to replace one in the desert that broke a countershaft and was not accessible by a tow truck. I've talked to a few people with Asian transmissions and heard good things, there will allways be a few issues with any product if you ask enough people.

I can say that when I installed the 3250 in my G56 in 2008 I really no longer liked how my truck drove, stiff pedal, annoyingly loud clutch and slow shifting. I've driven a newer street 3250 in a NV 4500 and it's much better so hopefully the newer clutches are better in the G56 then then the older ones. You will also get a lot of vibrations coming through the shifter with a solid flywheel.

Thats the price I have to pay due to updated ECM when in regen, I already shift slow, these aren't race trucks. And I've heard the newer DD's are better, but need the holding power when climbing grades and regen pops its ugly head at the wrong time.

Just changed my fluid on my C&C with Mobil 3309 ATF, same oil as the AS68RC, just $50 a case less. Also used a Aisin A465 filter, same as the Dodge filter, just $100 less. I've never had any problems at all with the Aisin in my truck in the 465,000+ miles I've had it.

EB,

Your truck is looking good for 600k miles without any major problems. You've never replaced even one injector or the HPCR injection pump, right? That's pretty remarkable service so far.

I'll bet that Cummins would like to do a feature story on it on their periodic newsletter site if you'll provide some photos.

I'll help you write it up and submit it if you'll pm me some details like in-service date and some photos of the truck working with a big load on the trailer as well as a shot of the odometer.

Hey EB nice to hear from you again, I hope you didn't mind me using your name in an earlier post, about different transmissions. Member LNaugle made a statement about Aisin transmissions failing under Oil Field duty use, in either brand. (Sterling/Dodge) I was surprised to hear that and started this thread to see if there had been failures, but just not posted about, after all, there is not a lot of conversations on the C&C Forum.

I have seen some very rough trucks being used by people who do not take care of them. Held together by duct tape and bailing wire so maybe some of those failures being repoted are from that type user

It must be like a Boat sitting in the sun rotting, and when they put them on the water, wonder why their taking on water or won't start or ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... , well you know the rest of the story. Man I hate to see a $30K and even seen more expensive Boats sitting and rotting in the sun.

The one thing I have done is to change the transmission fluid pretty much like the book says. I looked back on my maintenance logs and I have been within 1 or 2k miles of 60k on every fluid change. The only time the temp on my transmission gets above 150 is when I'm running slow in heavy city traffic or heavily loaded coming away from a location on a soft road, usually running 65 mph down the highway it will be around 140. The highest I have ever seen it was 190. I also don't drive like I need to be running the speed limit 100 yards after I get on the highway. I want my equipment to last, can't make money with the truck in the shop.

Hey EB, changing the subject, what do think of the delete vrs stock, but I am only thinking of the performance side of the difference? The performance of the 6. 7 should have more power and your 305 HP has to have changed for a higher HP, and how has the Aisin handled the difference in HP?

RVPOSER,

Have you noticed that some members don't want public discussions of the emission equipment installed or not installed on their trucks?

Big brother is watching... the recent litigation on tuner companies makes people very reluctant to talk. . There is a $10K fine if the environmental police jerks catch you with the emissions junk removed or modified. Knowing the EPA, they will go after people who bought tuners.

HSmartass, have you noticed, he himself has mentioned it here on TDR, otherwise how would I have known.

Stick your nose somewhere else, I think if EB had a problem with it he would PM me and ask me not to mention it again. Besides, you just brought more attention to it.

RVPoser:

Do you have to be told that someone probably doesn't want an epa issue discussed on a public forum now with the kenyan administration going after companies that sell delete equipment and most people expecting they'll go after owners next?
