2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Alarm "Chime" after startup

Ok, strange problem. Truck has never done this before. But, today as I am starting up and getting on my way to work. I am driving out the driveway and notice the "Chime" went off approximately 30 to 45 seconds after I had started the truck and took off. Then the rest of the day it has been doing the same thing. I look at the gauges to "check things out" and all gauges show normal readings. The only observations that I have made in recent days is that my tach seems to be "jerky"; it seems to increase or decrease in increments of 50 rpm's at a time. I dont know if that has anything to do with the "Chime", but I have noticed this for a few weeks. I have not steamed the motor off or done any cleaning under the hood, it has not rained here today or yesterday, so I dont believe that water is an issue. Also, there are no other lights lit on the dash besides the ABS and the BRAKE light. I have been tryign to figure out what is goign on there. I have it narrowed down to the ABS sensor on the front axle. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Can anyone direct me in how to see if there is a code set?? I do not know how to get the lights to display the flashes, will it work with the ABS and BRAKE lights on?? Thanks

Check your parking brake. Is it retracting all the way when you release it? If the microswitch is out of adjustment, maybe sometimes when you hit bumps it turns on the BRAKE light and when it does there should be a chime to alert you the parking brake is still on, even though it may not really be on in your case.

Had a similar problem on mine a while back, it ended up being a bad connection at one of the batteries. Take the teminals off, give them a good clean and see what happens.

Found out what it was!!!

Well, I guess I have to come back here and tell one on myself. I found out why my truck was chiming at me. I was standing down at my buddies drinking a coldie. And I guess after a few of those you get to thinking "outside of the box", we were talkign about the characteristics of the truck, and what was out of the ordinary since this has started to happen, and so on. Well, on of my friends just listened, and the first words out of his mouth were: "I'll bet its low on washer fluid"... ... well we popped open the resivour, and it was low. I went and got some fluid and filled it up. Needless to say, it doesnt chime anymore.



Get this, as I was on my way to go get some fluid, started it up, took off, and the same chime, this time it was accompanied by a light the "LOW WASH" light.



Crazy truck, who would have thunk it??

Good find! Too bad the Low Wash light wasn't coming on like it should and made you lose your mind. Something goofy in the cluster it sounds like.

I like "thinking out of the box" too! Solved more stuff that way

as for your problem with the abs light and brake light... ... change the speedo sensor on the rear end... ... worked for my truck..... also noted that the speedo didnt move until i got above 15 mph

Well, I did change the rear spedo sensor, the lights didnt go out. I guess I have a problem somewhere else. I just havnt got around to doing that. I actualy checked the voltage drop across the spedo sensor, it was somethign like . 1800 or so. All the ABS fuses are good. So, I dont know what to look for now.
