Gooseneck trailer ….???

Once again, we are headed for Alaska. Leaving NM on June 20, and hope to be on the Kenai river when the Salmon make the mid July run.

If any of you are making the same trip look for me, silver/grey 95 Cummins with 21. 5 Nash 5th whl in tow. truck liscense K5IP. Or, PM me and perhaps we can meet along the way (Alcan up, Cassiar back down). I'll return in early August.

Lets hope the 95 has another Alaska trip left in it. Two years ago I lost the bearings in the NV 4500 and had to limp home, mostly in high gear.

Ive gone through the truck pretty well, new water pump, water hoses, fuel hoses, torqued head bolts, valve lash, oil and filters, and much more, but you never know.

:) We made the same trip in 1999. Left in mid June and returned in mid August from Washington state. Your trk sounds like mine. 1995 reg cab. silver & grey only I have an auto and pulled a 24 ft Layton trl. We fished on the Kenai at Soldotna and spent a lot of time at Ninilchick and really enjoyed it. We went up the Alaska highway and returned on the Casiar. The Casiar was 100 miles shorter but the road was pretty rough north of the jct to Hyder. We found grocerys and fuel to be as cheap as the states once we got out of BC & The Yukon.

Enjoy the trip and keep us posted on your adventure.

We did the same trip in 95 with my new 95 Dodge/Cummins, CC 4WD, pulling my 29' HR 5er. We also made the trip last year with my 05 Dodge/Cummins and our Lance cab-over-camper. We are thinking of doing it again next year. Next time, we plan on taking the Cassier Hwy both ways. It's shorter, far more scenic and much more wildlife. I recommend taking the Top of the World Hwy to Dawson City. It's a bit rough.

We are headed out July 16th. Will look for you on the road. We are in a 2001 dully pulling a 22 foot Exel trailer. Learned our lesson pulling a 36ft three bedroom home in 2001. This will be our fourth trip with the 2001. So far we have had pretty good luck traveling to Alaska. Just minor problems like lift pumps. Look for a bright red truck with Texas license 5SHL84.

We are returning in early October.

I just got back from that trip. Left Seattle towards the end of May, and just got back on monday night. What a great trip, one I will always remember. I hope I can do it again sometime

Been there 2 times on my goldwings... . and 2 times by air to fish on the river that feeds Lake Illiama (sp)... . Used to fish this river the week of 4th of July and we'd limit in 20 min... . Combat fishing at its best... .

Hope you have a great uneventful trip...

This trip has been on my agenda for several years. Have any of you traveled with weapons; I hate to be in Alaska w/o my Marlin . 45-70 and hard cast.

How are the skeeters? :D

Good luck on your travels and send some pics when you can.

I just got back on monday. The skeeters werent really bad. In fact, I think they were only bothersome on 2 nights, and at that, it wasnt very much. But that may have been because I was there in late may, early june.

For weapons, there is a Canadian web site where you can download a form that you have to have filled out in triplicate (before you get there). They are pretty specific about what you can bring in. It has to be a sport (hunting) rifle. No hand guns, no assault weapons, etc. They sign off at the border, and it will cost $25. Not really too much of a hassle. But, from my recent experience, you probably dont need to bring a gun (knock on wood)

You don't need a weapon, but I would alway have a can of bear spray on my person at all time while out in the open where there are bears around. Taking firearms into Canada can be very difficult, which I don't think is worth the hassle. Mosquitos are worse in June and July then they are in August and September. They are also much bigger there then they are here.

Don't put it off too long. Go soon.

Come on up- pretty smoky down on the Kenai right now, due to a forest fire in Ninilchik. Other than that, been pretty nice (70's). Reds are in the Kenai right now.

Thanks all.

We are camped at the Kasilof trailer park as of today.

Good trip so far, no problems. More soon.

We are headed out a week from Monday. Maybe we can cross paths. We are heading from Colorado to Spokane and up the Casiar. We are not in a hurry so will not see Alaska until early August.

Maxburk,

We will be comming back down the Casiar about the first week in Aug.

Perhaps crossed paths there.

We are now waiting for the major run of Sockeye (Red's) on the Keneai river. They are not here yet.

I lived near the Kenai River where it dumps into the cook inlet. We fished with gill nets off the beach in the summer. This was back in the 70s. Haven't been back since.
