6th Annual Hub City Mopar Fest - Belen,NM 6-16-01

NTPA in Georgetown, OH

A couple of people have asked me to post about a Texas get together. You asked for-it, you got it. Here it is,any ideas or posible location? I like the idea of getting together at a campground or RV. park. At last months meeting this was talked about. Some have boats and a lot of us have trailers. Could help each other out and have a fine-time. Let's get it rolling and post ideas!(please)

Okie-go,

Last year we had an all Texas meet in Temple. Can't remember the name of the lake, but I'm sure someone will chime in with it. Had a good turn out, was lots of fun. Temple seems like a good place to meet as it was central for Dallas, Houston & San Antonio. Might be a good area to look into again. I might also suggest some areas off Hwy 281, such as Marble Falls, or Lampasas. Both are real nice areas, and would only be about 1 hour further from Houston, about the same from Dallas or S. A. If you want some more information about Marble Falls, or Lampasas, let me know. (There's a big dealership in Lampasas, that could maybe be convinced to sponser this).

If ya'll thought that Temple was a good meeting place then ya'll might want to consider Mother Neff State park located about 20 minutes from Belton Lake, site of last years event. It has a nice area for camping if some of you guys have a TT. I just thought i'd throw in that suggestion since someone mentioned camping grounds and another mentioned central texas.

Sounds good to me. I was at the Temple meet last year. We had 51 trucks( I believe) come there. a good time was had by all!I have some connections with a huge RV park in Kerrville. They have a big room for display purposes,(if needed). Depending on the# of people staying at the park, to get this room may require a fee but we would not have to concern ourselves with weather. I would be happy to make inquiries on behalf of the group. There is boating nearby, The Cowboy Artists Mueseum, Kerrville State Park. Also, Fredricksburg is less than an hour away, plenty of shopping chances for spouces, etc, etc, etc.

Hill Country locations like Guadalupe River RV Resort in Kerrville or somewhere in Fredricksburg sound great. I would imagine most RVers would like to meet where there are full hookups available (including 50 amp shore power if meeting is in the summertime).

New guy or old, as far as I'm concerned every member has an equal voice. It would be nice to hear from some of the other new members, too. Come on, guys. Speak up.

Just to throw some things out there. . There is also an Antique Tractor Show and Pull in Stonewall on June 23-24. . But there is also in San Angelo on June 16th, but looking at the map that is a little far. (We are planning on attending the San Angelo, but not sure about the Stonewall. )
I don't know if we have many TDR truck pullers, but August 6-11th there are tractor and truck pulls everynight that week. I think the truck pulls are on Friday and Saturday. Maybe a future meeting to watch some truck pulling.

(I think the truck pulls are Friday and Saturday) This is there annual Peach and Melon Festival... basically their county fair... The pulls are in the evenings, under the lights. . makes for a great show... They will pull everything from Antique Tractors, to Smokers, and Stock and modified truck. (Basically anything U want to drag out on the track. )

Another thought--last year the Superstore at Boerne had expressed a desire to participate--who is the contact person? (they are just down I-10 from Kerrville) Another? Are we getting in too big of a hurry--not enough time to line up potential vendors & sponsors? The 16th & 17th are fine with me--I will be at Buckhorn the 22nd for our June rally with Texas Travelers Alpenlite Club anyhow. The park is a new one at I-10 & Goat Rd. , the 2nd. exit off I-10 going west. from Hwy. 16. It is Buckhorn Lake Resort. They have 30-50 amp service, phone & cable service at every site, paved pads, meeting rooms, laundry, 2 pools, Etc. They are Passport America members for 1/2 price camping. (sorry-there are no facilities for tent camping--however there is a KOA about 5 minutes away) I talked to them today. The big barn is available for Sunday, the 17th. If we get 25 RVs to camp the barn is free, Less than that would involve a smell fee---just to cover electricity for a/c , etc. This barn is built so that motorhomes can be driven inside--plenty big for our get together, sorry about Sat. the 16th--they are having a wedding. These are great people who know how to treat their guests. You can e-mail me with ?s

Jim, I just talked to other members at Katy Mills. I can make it. I know of 4 others that have trailers that plan on being there also. That is 5 of us from down in this neck of the woods that will be there. Not to mention the guys from S. Antonio and Austin,or even big D. I don't know about the vendor thing but it would be a great big camp-out type outing at least. Can you or someone else please find out what it costs to camp there and we may need to try to get some spots reserved, close together of course. I agree it is quick but if we wait much longer the heat would fry us. It was tough today. Granted it was on a parking lot. You can still make it that day I gathered from your post. I vote we go with it still on the 16 or 17th. Anybody else want to yay or nay can speak up.

Are ya'll just talking about have a get together or a full blown rally with the vendor support and seminars, etc?

IMHO, I'm not sure if we can plan a big event like that with just a month to work with. If I recall, the meet last year took sbout 3 to 4 months to get together. I'd like the idea of having another "rally" like last year(even though I broke on the way there and couldn't make it). From what I gathered from those I talked to, there was a lot of good information shared that weekend, as well as some pretty good food. I like the idea that the Superstore in Boerne would be interested in sponsering an event like this. Maybe we could talk to some vendors that would be interested in coming down and giving seminars about their products. I know Joe Donnelly was at the last rally and gave some good information. We could start contacing the vendors that helped out last year and see if they would like to help out again this year as well. Also, there have been some new vendors spring up over the last year. I am open to help plan a big event like this.

We could shoot for sometime in October when the weather is cooler and we are able to stay outside for longer periods of time.

I'm not trying to discourage a get together in June, just not sure if ya'll are talking about a rally like last years event or an informal meeting like the Houston meetings.

Any other ideas?

The weekend of June 16/17 sounds great to me!
I'm actually off that weekend. If I'm not too
stressed (training on a new type of airliner,
Boeing 757! #ad
) thru the end of July. . might
rent a travel trailer and stay the weekend.

Ok, can we say it is in stone for the 16 and 17. We could start to get a head count, I mean truck count for spaces at the park.
