Talked with my dealer this morning and they are showing my truck order as being shipped on 2/6/01. Also said that truck was built in Mexico. Wow, where is the thing!

Then I called the 800# and what did I find out. Not only is the truck NOT being built in Mexico, but is being built in St. Louis. #ad
Truck is still in St Louis for a "Quality Audit. " I asked about the Ship date that the dealer had and I was told that was an estimated ship date. I've been pretty cool about this whole new truck deal thing and ordering and all, but I am wishing I had bought off the lot again! A case of the right hand not talking to the left.

Oh well... will give them another week and I start hunting around... Been thinking I should of ordered a 4x2 anyway...

Runaway, were you hoping for a Mexican-assembled truck? After being in the body repair business for several years, I specificly ordered a Mexican truck, solely because of build quality... I saw waaaaay too many flaws comming out of Missouri. Make sure you inspect the he!! out of it when it arrives!! Spend a minimum of 45min-1hr going over absolutely everything... have them put it on a lift and spend time underneath too. . The main things I saw wrong were body-seam lines (doors dont line up, hood cracks narrow and wide), horrible paint (some new trucks on the lot looked like they should have a rebuilt title! I kid you not!), dash and doorpanel mis-fitments, etc... just be careful... I know youre anxious, but you're spending a ton of $$, make sure you get a good one!

Your probable going to be the lucky few, who gets a perfect truck from the factory. I remember somone who said "if it going into quality check/hold everything on the truck get the once over one more time".

BCFAST is right about the Mexican truck thing. Fit & finish is far better then from the St. Louis plant. All 4 trucks I have ordered were built in Mexico, and the quality has been top notch.

Just for comparison, my 98. 5 took 124 days to arrive from the day I ordered it. My 2001 took 29. Go figure... #ad

My truck came out of St. Looey and it was perfect. I did not find one problem with it when I did the inspection and test drive before I took it home. Guess I got lucky eh?

My '96 gasser Ram came from Mexico and My 2000 Ram Cummins came from St Louis. I haven't found both to be fine.

Runaway, from the 6th of Feb. to date is only 16 days so you have a few more weeks. Mine took 5 weeks and came in without anybody really knowing it was suppose to. If you went down and ordered the truck you wanted then I promise the wait no matter how hard will be worth it when the truck arrives. I had ordered two trucks one 3/4 and one 1 ton and was standing there when the truck pulled up with them on it. At that moment all the frustrations left and I had two new trucks to drive and decide on. Wait it out it will be worth it!!!! Pete

How did you "specifically order a truck from Mexico"?

From what I understand you, nor the dealer has any control over where the truck is built. Am I incorrect?

I think we can all agree on the following and put this silly Mexico vs. St. Louis thing to bed:
There has been no trends documented here on the TDR that indicates a better quality assembly at either plant. Go through the posts -

Mine was built in St. Louis (which is what I was hoping for - only for the fact that I could say that when I bought an American truck, it was built in America)

Scooby, thats a good point, even though I understand this global market free trade stuff I was sort of thankful that it was built here. I have seen several trucks at the dealers built in Old Mexico and they are top quality. Pete

Actually it makes no difference where it comes from, as long as is is a trouble free machine... My "99" is a St Louey truck and I haven't had any build problems with it. I guess the longer it takes to get here, the less I have to drive it in the salt and all during spring break-up. Thanks for the shoulder to whine on anyway. #ad

When I took a tour of the Cummins plant in Columbus, Indiana, during the TDR rally a few years ago, I saw that the connecting rods for our engines are made in Brazil. Andy

Mine was built in St Louis. Fit, body panel gaps etc, good. Paint..... well that's another story. It's not horrible, just not great.

BTW I work for the company that supplies the paint for these. I was told someone lost their leg on the assy line (2 weeks away from retirement) while checking paint thickness on the roof. Guess nobody wanted to fix the safety hazard, because that's where mine if *F'ed* up.
