Thanks, TDR Staff

Think I may need a new Turbo...See photo.

Anyone that was on DTR reading the thread about the allison transmission swap, you will need to come here for the factual info now. Brayden and I (GMac) got kicked off of DTR because of Opie running his mouth on stuff he doesn't know on DTR. So come here for info.

What is DTR?--and please consider filling us in on what info was in the thread that you mentioned. Is it the Allison conversion from Suncoast?

too bad Gabe. I followed that for a long time and it had tons of good info even though it got a little heated at times.

Hey, wanna convert a 12 valve to the allison???

Jason

sure, I have to fix a 47re for guy that is on these forums, so he is going to drive my truck tomorrow. I am going to have his post what he thinks about the transmission.

I read threw the whole thread last night. I had forgoten about it. Talk about petty bickering.

I like the idea of what your doing. It will give people a option on trans upgrades. Will the trans hold real high horsepower. I don't know. But for the people that want a trans with better gear selections for towing I think your on the right track.

For a truck like my sig shows a 5/6 speed would be a very good upgrade. But in the case of my truck a 2000 would give me a better gear selection. I don't need 2 OD's with 3:08 gears. If I could afford it I would be over beating on your door for a complete swap.

I plan on being in Mansfield in a month or so to have a couple of minor upgrades done by Greenleaf. I might try to get in touch with you. I would love to go for a ride and see how the trans feels behind a cummins. :D

...come here for info.

Care to comment on how/why that 9-second Duramax is allegedly running a Chrysler 47RE? I read about it here on the TDR...

The story is that somehow the Allison can't shift fast enough and it eats itself in a hurry.

As a former owner of a DTT modified 47RH and current owner of a bone-stock LCT-1000, I won't be going back to a 47RH/RE. The Allison was designed with a clean sheet to take abuse, the Chrysler trannies were slowly upgraded over time to maybe just barely make it to the end of the warranty period with a gentle right foot and OEM engine.

Thanks,

Matt

the reason why is because of bind ups that occur with the dmaxes and also they defuel to shift. Tuning is the biggest key to making the allison live.

Get ahold of me and I we can meet up if you up this way

I'll be that way in a month or so. Greenleaf who hangs out in the 1st gen section lives north of your about 15 miles. I have been to his place a couple of times.

I installed my tow/haul, overdrive lockout, and 4-Low switches today on my Allison. I really, really like tow/haul. I towed my 8k trailer for a few miles and it worked great. Running tow/haul empty is a blast. Man, is it fast. I used to have about 100hp more when I had the NV5600 in my truck, and there is no way it could keep up with it now in the lower gears.

The compression breaking in tow/haul is sweet also. It downshifts like its a stick.

The overdrive lockout worked perfectly too. Thanks Brayden.

What do you mean when you say 'bind ups'? Defueling on shifts is par for the course - I hope my Cummins "ISB 170" doesn't defuel too much.

Beers,

Matt

the bind ups are like 3rd coming in when 2nd gear hasn't released yet. The two are fighting each other. You don't need to defuel to make the transmission live. You need good programming so you don't bind up the shifts

Ouch - yeah, that would be bad. :-laf

How do you personally go about tuning the TCM's on a non-OEM Cummins/Allison combo? This is something I'll need to look into once I get the proper calibration in place.

Thanks,

Matt

I send the TCM tuned to you, and I really doubt you will need to change it, but if you do I will send you another and send me the old one back. You can adjust the tunes through EFI live also but you need to know what you are doing.

EFI-Live is done through OBD-II, so how do you use it to tune the Allison TCM in a non OEM application.

IIRC, my ISB/Allison combo is not OBD-II compliant because it came out of a medium duty truck. It didn't have the traditional OBD-II port, it had that funky looking port with the German name that I can't seem to recall at the moment. :-laf

Thanks,

Matt

Well we send it out with a custom tune, from there, you can hook into your OBDII port to check codes and change some things from there.

I followed the thread for awhile too. Here's another guy who'd like to stick a 6-speed behind a 12v powering a '98 2wd shortbed. It's one of the reasons I haven't spent any $$ on my stock auto. I crawled under Dave Ratcliffe's truck and sized up his Allison & think it could fit under a 2wd, what do you think Gabe?

If I did a 6-speed conversion I would switch to 3. 73 gears, 3. 54s would be too tall.

Ratcliffe I still need to hook up with ya one of these weekends. . .
