Well, as a V-10 owner who has been lurking here for almost a year, I finally decided to come to the "dark side". Went to the dealer last week and ordered up a 2001. 5 ETH/DEE 3500 QuadCab 4x2 SLT+ with Sport package, 4. 10 axle, camper & towing packages, all the goodies, bright white with tan leather to tow our 13,500 lb GVWR 5th wheel - the truck is rated for 21,500 GCVWR and 14,700 trailer. Signed the contract, put down the deposit, immediately joined the TDR. Got the VON this Monday. Dealer called yesterday and said, "Sorry, Dodge won't build your truck. They've cut off production of the 3500's for the 2001 model year. "

The dealer tried a search of the southern and southwestern U. S. and couldn't find a truck like I had ordered - no surprise since another dealer had already done a search before I ordered the truck.

So, I took my deposit check back and went to the house. Here I sit at work, cash in hand and can't buy the truck. Guess I'll wait to order a 2002 - heck, might as well wait for the 2003. Maybe I'll go by the Chebby dealer and look at a Duracrap on the way home - in desperation, I've already looked at a Crew Cab Lariat 4x4 SuperDoody with PSD & 6-speed, 4. 10 axles - the wimpy thing is only rated for 12,500 trailer... . #ad

Childre in Milledgeville, GA has a nice driftwood on the lot. They also have a white one if I'm not mistaken. What are you looking for?

Well I can't look today, my salesman was off... . I dropped my truck off for some "cosmetic" warrenty work, nuthing major I don't think. Anyhow they gave me a "Rental" a lil F150 gasser #ad

I am going tomorrow to talk to my salesman and take a truck for the day basically (trying out an ETH) so I'll browse their inventory then. #ad

In case anyone thinks Joe Creekmore disappeared, I actually just changed my user name and e-mail address. This is the pore sick puppy with cash and no truck! #ad
(Well, actually no CTD truck - I do have that V-10 dually... . )

Go to Chaprelldodge.com, Ada Oklahoma. Last time I talked to them about three weeks ago they had 120 diesel trucks on the lot. They sell more trucks outside Oklahoma than they do in. You're not that far from them.

Charley,

Yep, I've tried Chaprell. No SLT+'s and no Sports with the 4. 10 rear axle. Thanks for the suggestion, though. #ad

No luck here, the two white sport duallys he had are cloth interior. Sorry. And actully up here finding 2wd might be a chore. I'll keep an eye out tho.

Hopefully, I'll be visiting my dealer in the next couple of days to check the status of my order. If you like, I'll have him check to see if there are any that meet your specs in the People's Republic of Kalifornia.

Eric and Jim,

Thanks, guys. I know the specs we listed make this one rare Ram! If you do run across one, that'll be a pleasant surprise! #ad

Hi Rusty,

My truck is similar to the one you want, only smaller (2500 vs 3500). The white with tan interior is sweet!

Joe, I ordered almost the same truck as you, except without the training wheels. Got my VON about a week before you did. I must have just squeaked in under the wire.

My dealer said that they're all cut off now, not just the 3500. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but I have faxed your specifications to him and he's told me he'll get back to me tomorrow - he's got someone searching the left coast to see what he can find. I told him I figured you were pretty firm on the options, but he asked me to find whether you have flexibility on the color.

Frank & Jim,

Thanks, guys. Yeah, we want the white with tan leather for 2 reasons:

1. The white matches the 5th wheel - that's important to my wife. #ad

2. My wife has a loaded out 2000 Durango SLT+, bright white with tan leather interior. We ordered the 3500 to match her Durango. #ad

I've asked my dealer to give me a call when he is able to order 2002's. If anyone knows when they will be available for order, please let me know. #ad

Okay, here's what he's come up with so far:

Model: Ram 3500 Yes
Trim: 4dr Quad Cab 155" WB DRW (2001) Yes
Exterior Color: Bright White Clear Coat Yes
Interior Color: Camel/Tan Leather DZAZ - Isn't that agate?
Additional Options:
> 4x2 Yes
> 5. 9L HO Cummins Turbo Diesel Yes
> 6-Speed HD Manual Yes
> H Package This is the SLT+
> Axle-Anti-Spin Differential Yes
> Axle Ratio - 4. 10 Yes
> Bracket - Front License Plate Yes
> Camper Special Group Yes
> SLT Plus Decor Group Yes
> Sport Appearance Group NOPE!
> Trailer Tow Group Yes
> Window - Rear, Sliding Yes
> Bright White Clear Coat Monotone Paint Yes
> Seat - Leather 40/20/40 Bench Camel/Tan Can someone tell me if 'AZ' is Agate?
> Accessory - 82205577 Diesel Exhaust Brake Dealer-install

It also has Folding trailer tow mirrors, air dam, fancy wheels, and a bed liner.

Close. He said he might have a handle on one more that's closer, but won't know for a day or two.

He's trying his best.

AS far as I heard, the 3500's have stopped production a couple of weeks ago but the 2500's can still be ordered.

Rusty,
Don't know if you're intersted in the long trip, but the last time I was in Oak Harbor(WA),the Dodge dealer there had 4 dually 2wd ETH/6spd SLT+'s (no Sports). Sorry, but don't have their ph#,but I think their website is oakharbormotors.com

-Mike

Jim, sounds like we're getting real close! If the dealer can't find anything closer, if he has a scanner, perhaps he could e-mail me the invoice for the truck you describe showing the equipment; a digital photo or two would be nice as well #ad
- my home e-mail address is jccreek@ev1.net - that's ev"one", the number, not ev"ell", the letter. If not, he could fax it to me at work - 713/856-1693. (By the way, I meant to order the front air dam - don't know why I overlooked it!) #ad

Mike, I'll check out that website. I have enough frequent flier miles that I could come anywhere in the U. S. that Continental or one of their partners flies to pick it up. I would use a few vacation days to drive it back - good break-in trip before I hitch up the 5ver!

The truck I ordered listed for $38,295, and I was going to get it for $33,419 from my local dealer before tax, title and license (not including the dealer-installed Jacobs exhaust brake). If I pick it up out-of-state, I'll still have to register it back here in Texas, of course, so local registration shouldn't figure into the deal.

Fellows, I really appreciate all the help. Thanks very much. #ad

Rusty

P. S. -

Mike, I tried oakharbormotors.com, oakharbordodge.com, oakharbormotor.com and came up dry. Oakharbor.com got me to a real estate outfit! #ad
Maybe it's my ISP or browser, but if I'm using the wrong URL, please let me know. #ad

Joe, I've emailed a copy of the invoice that the dealer faxed to me. And try this URL: Oak Harbor Motors

And the front air dam and Sport Package are mutually exclusive. #ad

Joe,
If the Oak Harbor dealer doesn't work out for you, you may want to try Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg, ID. As I understand it, they sell more Dodge trucks than any dealer in the US. They'll pick you up at the airport in Spokane, WA, drive you back to the dealership, sign the papers and off you go! Very good prices as well. 1-800-635-8000. Both my father and I bought our CTD trucks there, great experience. Good luck!
