Almost no activity on the towing forum.

I have noticed that there is very little activity on the towing forum lately. Where'd everybody go?

I'm getting ready to haul the fifth wheel to Arizona on 12/27, right after all the family Christmas get togethers. I won't be back to MN until about May 1. Got all my maintenance done on the truck and it's ready to roll. We haven't had any real winter here yet, normally gets down to 0 degrees by now but it's been in the 40's most days and the grass is still green. I hope the big snows hold off until after we leave.

Yeah I noticed no activity here either. Sure wish you members could at least have something here to keep me occupied until my new truck comes in. Figure I have about 5 weeks to go, with the holidays and all. I want to tow something big! All I got now is a Dakota (for sale) with a 318 in it, at least it has 3. 90 gears!

Once A Month !

I haul my 9000 lb 5th wheel up to Avenal for our monthly shoot. Everytime I go down Questa Grade I fall in love with my PacBrake all over again. Never even have to hit the brakes unless some moron makes me. Lets hear it for Exhaust Brakes.

Been out towing the 5ver around the Texas Hill Country with the Texas Boomers! The only problem I had was glare from my teeth reflecting in the windshield because of the cactus-eatin' grin I had every time that Cummins pulled another hill at 1/2 throttle in 6th gear at 65 MPH with a 13,500 lb 5ver behind it!

I am not towing, hauling, driving or anything for the moment. My truck sits in my shop. I cross country ski down in the mornings, work all day on my aluminum flatbed and crosscountry ski home at dinner time. Middle of next week, it should be driveable, towable, haulable.

The river has closed for the season, so no more running a quick load of corn or soybeans down in the morning before work. It was a great change of pace for me to jump into a KW with Cummins N14 and run down the road. I don't know if I'll ever get trucking out of my blood, and I've been in the machining business full time for 20+ years. Maybe when I retire . . . .



On the other hand, I remember loading cattle when it was -30F on the thermometer (not windchill), wet snow packed into an 8" blanket of ice on the interstate, etc. Maybe I'll be content to make chips until spring.

DTT Installations

I'm having a DTT TC and DTT VB installed at Huntington Beach Dodge (in CA) next Monday. I am sure hoping it will improve the towing capability of my 97 3500 CTD. They are going to do some other transmission modifications too. From what I read on these forums, it makes all the difference in the world. We went overboard, a while back, and bought a 34' triple slide fifth that weighs about 13,000 lbs. , so I felt that some transmission help is in order. I probably should be thinking of a MDT, but too pricey. I sure enjoy these forums; keep it up. Thanks.

Wasn't around in the good weather either though... too much work! Not retired ... for quite a while yet.



Can't wait to get the 5ver out again. Only left it's ruts twice last season! What a waste. Next season it's going every other weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will have the go with the up grades for the transmission but with 13,000+stuff in trailer you need the whoooo. Get a exhaust brake or a good supply of brake pads and slow it down . Ron in Louisville Ky

I got a new 5er in August. We've been camping more this fall and winter than ever before. The Arctic Fox likes winter.

Posting a little lean

I've pretty much posted about running overloaded, how good my super Airlifts/Rancho 9000s are, resonded to the age old question on which ratio is better (3. 54s or 4. 10s), exhaust brakes.



Won't be pulling 5th wheel out until May madness either. I check this post lots and freely offer my two cents worth whenever possible.



I was very interested in the post where someone listed the 5th wheel hitch that plugs into gooseneck hitch. I'll be checking future posts on this.
