gonna get a rebuild kit for my alternator. geno's listes then for a denso and also a bosch alternator for my model year (2001 actually its a 01. 5). Is there a tag or part number on the alternator so I can figure out which one I have? Or anyone know which I liking have (truck info is below).

I want to rebuilt it as I have been getting some intermintent electrical noise over my radio etc.

Thanks

J-

Unfortunately the only sure fire way to know which alternator your truck has is to use an inspection mirror to read the manufacturer name, part number and specs on the back. Mine originally had a Bosch. I recently replaced it with a brand new unit I found on eBay for less than $130 here:

New alternator on eBay

I rebuilt the original Bosch unit and carry it as a spare. The new one fit and works perfectly. The only thing worth noting was that I had to clip off a small bent tab on the ring terminal at the end of the truck's wiring harness to properly fit the lug on the back of the alternator.

Best regards,

John L.

Yes, there is a manufacture tag on the backside. My 01 has a Bosch alt. I just purchased the rebuild kit from Genos. It will get stashed under the seat "just in case" for our journey down the Alcan hwy in a few weeks.

My tags were gone. The easiest way, and this was from Geno's, is to pull the back cover off (can be done in place) and look at the brushes. Match them to the pic in the catalog and there ya go. They are very different and its easy to tell - worked for me!
