Cents per Gallon

JFitzgerald, great post :)

I like to figure my additive costs by cents per gallon:

$85 per 5 gallons of Amalgamated = $17. 00 per gallon. 1 gallon treats 375 gallons, so $17. 00 divided by 375 = 4. 53 cents per gallon. Not bad. The others I have seen the cheapest is around 3c per gallon and up from there.

Custom Formulation

Bob Wagner, maybe the NW BOMBers could go in on a GP a order a good-sized quantity of Amalgamated additive and save on purchase and shipping charges. Also we could do a custom formulation, although it may be hard to top what they already have. What do you think? If just 10 of us did 5 gallons that is 50 gallons right there.

HemiDart could you maybe check with Gary Pipenger and find out how many gallons min. to do a custom blend?

Thanks, Vaughn. Just thought it might help people compare. Seems like a good return for the money.

Vaughn,

I emailed Gary on the minmum needed for a custom blend.

Gary said about 12 guys have ordered so far.

Gary wrote about the additive we ordered:

This is a full "Premium" additive # 21665-15 with everything we

can put into an additive to improve performance in both on-highway and

off-road diesel fuels and fuel oils.

Steve Cambell , I will post the answer tonight.

I am anxious to try it and am curious what HP and TQ difference 6 more cetane numbers makes. :D [/B]

JFitzgerald,

You could purchase the 5'er and divide it up into smaller quantities. That would preserve the additive from excessive air from opening and closing the 5'er lid. You could get gallon or quart sized plastic bottles with lids and store it safely somewhere.

I need a 55 gal container

Would they sell me a 55 gal drum. I can p/u from them. I go thru 100-150 gal fuel a day. a 5 gal would be a waste of time for me.

ps. on Power Service

an afterthought. I use the power service version (in a silver 96 oz jug) sold at flying j it runs 12. 99 and improves cetane 6 points, vs. the power service in the white jug (2-4 points improvement). My point to all of this is Which power service did they test???

Steve Campbell

from Amalgamated:

Diesel fuel cetane number rating is perhaps the most important part of any Premium Diesel Fuel. As Engine Cetane Number is raised, the ignition delay after injection is minimised and the unused (resulting from poor combustion-long ignition delay times) can be more fully utilized by the engine. Shortening ignition delay improves fuel compustion in the cylinders and increases engine power.

So say you have 43 Cetane fuel from the pump. Add Amalgamted as directed. Now you have 49 Cetane Fuel. Below is what you should notice:

Engine runs quietier (less knock)

Engine Runs Smoother

Engine has better throttle response

Exhaust Smoke is cleaned up by 80% (My opinion)

Engine starts effortlessly (My opionion)

Engine shuts down effortlessly (My opinion)

Amalgamated says 50 Cetane fuel yields +3. 5 to 4. 5% better fuel economy.

The best mix (not tried Amamlgamated yet) I have found works is: 4oz Stanadyne Performance Formula. 4oz Howes Meaner Power Cleaner & 5 oz Amsoil Cetane Boost. Adding this to the tank prior to fill-up makes the truck run SO good. It's like night & Day compared to the plain pump fuel.

Joe D said in an issue of the TDR that 50 is the cutoff point for raising the Cetane pionts. In other words, boosting the Cetane numer to 60 or more won't give you anymore benefit than 50.

If you can find the good 50 Cetane Arco Surpreme and fill up with it, then add Amalgamated , you might not see a big difference?. The detergent & Lubricity part of the additive would be the benefit.

Blair,

Good idea. Guess I could use the old PS jugs I have collected for a start... :D John

Chip,

That's the $$ per gallon for a 55 gal drum. Gary can't send aything less than a 5 gallon drum.

My jug came today. Well packaged w/ no dents or leaks. I think I'm going to get a cheap plunger pump to Dispense it. McMaster-Carr has a bunch of them. :)
