Sounds great guys. I realize that the price with shipping is still less than PS or Stanadyne but it is just the principle of spending as much on the shipping as the product itself. If they will discount shipping than maybe we could get a group purchase going on NW bombers. We will have to see what the #'s come out to. Let me know what you find out.

Just got a pail.........

Now how to get the stuff out. I bought a pump at Grainger but they dont have a cap adapter for that size. Seems no one does. I called amalgamated and they said they haven't heard of one either. I asked if they had an extra cap and I'd make one myself. They said they'd check.



Anyway what are you guys doing to transfer it to smaller containers?

I also bought a pump from Grainger - just an inexpensive plastic drum pump. If yours is like mine, it has a stepped base with 2 different threaded areas with different diameters. The smaller one on mine matches a 3/4 inch pipe thread. I bought a threaded brass coupling, cut off about a 3/8 inch section and soldered it to the underside of the metal cap of the Amalgamated stuff (cut a matching hole in the cap, of course). Now I can just screw in the pump. When the pump is not in use, thread in a 3/4" plug.

Sounds right......

The shaft on the pump I got is 1 1/8". This doesn't match any of the plumbing sizes. They have a plastic adapter that I will glue to an extra cap if they are able to send it to me. Then I can use the original cap to seal the conatiner after filling smaller bottles.



Added it for the first time today. The only really noticeable difference seems to be MORE smoke. I'll have to drive a few tanks throguh to see whats really happening with it. I know my smoke patterns change with the weather, even though it's a nice cool day.



Lubrication is my main concern with additives anyway. The added cetane may be a plus, time will tell.

Saw on the page in the post listing these pumps, that above the measured pumps, they have a 5gal adapter for the 15 gal pump (Optional Pail Adapter 9912K21 9. 30). This is under the stainless 8/16 oz per stroke pumps.



Dont know if this adapter would work on the 2,4,6,8 oz stroke pump or not. If it does, then your probs are solved.



Sounds like I need to get a stock pile of this for the new rig when it gets in (not yet ordered - hope Jun/July time frame - UNLESS the lottery comes in ).

Only problem is that the plastic 5 gallon pail has a different thread size to it. Grainger lists those same pumps. And the adapters that grainger sells are listed for 5 gallon pails, only the plastic ones.



The metal pail has about a 2" thread to it. Unfortunately it's not NPT. I'll jury rig it, no doubt, just thought there might be an exact one.

Yes Jeff, I used my old Kerosun battery operated kerosene pump to dispense the Amalgamated D. F. A. into smaller containers (backpacking fuel bottles)... it works great!



Bob, count me in for more Amalgamated... maybe 5 or 10 gallons if the price is better than the $90. I paid previously.

Where did you find these kerosene can pumps? I looked at Home Depot and Lowes to no avail. Neither place carried kerosene heaters or related supplies. A few years back I bought a 5 gal translucent plastic kerosene container from Wal-Mart to put used oil in for recycling. Went to Wal-Mart and same luck as at Home Depot and Lowes.

You could get them where they sold kerosene heaters. I haven't looked for a long time though. Jeff

I'll do some more hunting around, I think the problem is this time of year most places have removed heaters, etc from the shelves to make room for spring time inventory. I'll try finding an ACE or True Value Hardware stores. Not sure if any Farm/Ranch/feed type stores exist around here, but that may be the best bet. If not what are these hand or battery operated pumps refered to as so I can do a web search? I typed in kerosene transfer pumps and get a lot of links to places which sell large pumps for either storage tank or 55 gal drum size pumping needs. What where the the pumps from Grainger some have tried?

any marine supply has outboard motor fuel replacement lines... they have a small hand primer / siphon bulb that will start a siphoning ... easy to control and a small line to deal with ... also available in many sporting good stores

1tuffram, I purchased my Kerosun battery operated siphon (pump) as an accessory at the same time I purchased my Kerosun, kerosene heater, some twenty years ago. The standard, bulb operated siphon worked/works so-so, whereas the battery operated unit works extremely well!



Big White Beast, the cost when I purchased my 5-gallon can of Amalgamated DFA was $90. total... $50. for the product, $40. shipping (ground UPS). If I'm not mistaken, the shipping charge is an average... I believe the $40. price holds true regardless of where it's shipped (in the lower 48).
