About two months ago I posted a message concerning third gear clash when the transmission was cold i. e. below 30 degrees. I thought that maybe it was the AMSOIL 5W-30 causing the problem. Yesterday I took a chance and bought the expensive MOPAR oil and changed out the fluid. Well last night it was 5 degrees out and the truck performed perfectly this morning. . the problem is completely gone. I guess there are certain additives in the MOPAR stuff. The AMSOIL fluid which I drained still looked brand new and the filter and magnet were perfectly clean. I still use AMSOIL everywhere else and I love their product, but it isn't for the 6-speed.

I have Mobil-1 synthetic in mine and no probs as of yet. It seemed like it did shift smoother after the change. It may just be in my head but I felt good about the change.

Are you folks talking about engine oil or transmission oil?

I have had the Amsoil Series 3000 5w30 in my 6sp. for over 60K mi. now, with no problems. Shifts as good if not better than new. I tow 20K to 26K loads about 70% of miles. My dlr. , at my request, put it in new transmission when it was replaced at 29K under warranty.

Yes.

(sorry, couldn't resist) #ad

The oil used in the 6 speed transmission is "almost" engine oil. The specifications are almost identical to engine oil, but it has very special additives. Amsoil tells you their 5W-30 meets all requirements and is a good choice for this application. Dodge tells you that use of anything other than the Texaco product voids the warranty.

Do NOT get Dodge to do your transmission oil change, unless you are independently wealthy and have a great dealer. As someone pointed out, Dodge charges 10. 50 (+/-) for a quart of this oil, so a change out costs over $50 for oil + $25 in labor. If you call a texaco distributor, you get 5 gallons for under $50, enough for 4 changes with some left over (9. 5 pints per change). Even if you just bottle it up and still pay someone else to do the change, you'll still save a bundle.

I really appreciate the original poster's comments, because I had just decided to stick with the Texaco product; this helps confirm my decision.

Now if we could just find something that works in the 5 speeds! (besides that $15. 00 per quart mopar stuff)

For what you pay to get five quarts in the Mopar Bottle... you could have gotten 5 GALLONS from Texaco. (it is only available in 5 Gal Bucket presently)

That and an EATON/FULLER PTO Filter (available at Geno's) is how I'm caring for mine.
