It is time for me to change my diff fluid again, however, I want to switch to Amsoil this time... . I use it for everything else. Just wondering what kind I should use? Any help would be greatlt appreciated. I have an 03 HO 4x4.

Are you guys using Amsoil getting any launch shudder or noise? I had read on other threads where some were having trouble witth Amsoil in their differential. I too am getting ready to change and trying to decide between Amsoil and RP.

I do get a shudder at takeoff, but have only noticed when loaded heavy with a load of hay. I had 6300lbs on my rear axle when I noticed it.

Hey Bud, Call Amsoil @ 1-800-777-7094, request tech support. Give them your info and let them recommend the correct lube and additive if you have a limit-slip differential. Greg H.

I have used amsoil 75-90 gear oil for about 130,000 miles and have no problems. I had to use some limited slip additives with it. I just switched to the 75-90 severe gear and did not have use any limited slip additives, so far so good.

My last change I sent in a sample of Amsoil 75w-90 and it came back just fine with around 40K on it. I decided to switch to 75w-140. I know the book says 75w-90, but the book doesn't know that I gross 40K every now and then.

If you have an 03' or later Dodge with a Cummins, the differential is an American Axle, and they DO NOT USE Clutches/Discs as part of the Limited Slip.

Well, 5,000 miles with Amsoil in my differentials and now I'm getting shuddering when I make tight turns from a dead stop..... Any ideas anyone? I never had this problem before! Do I need the additive? Please help, I'm starting to get ****** off here... . it is getting worse and more consistant with all tight turns left and / or right.

Does it feel like a high frequency shuddering, or a low frequency -shake the whole bed of the truck- type feeling? If it's the low frequency, I'd be willing to bet that it's axle wrap and not your diff. I had the same thing in my '03 and It got to a certain point and it stopped getting worse. It was less noticeable when I started out in 1st gear (NV5600). Traction bars would have stopped it completely.

I don't think adding an additive is going to help because there are no clutches in your differential. If you're really concerned about it, switch back to the factory fill and see if it stops it.

In the trucks that towed heavy consistently I ran 75-140 Amsoil Severe Gear. In the others I run 75-90 Amsoil SG. The only one that shuddered as you describe was the '03 Dually(75-140). LS additive doesn't fix it. The rest of them ran fine with Amsoil in the diffs.

I run the 75w90 amsoil. I just towed up to NY Lake George, at the top of one the long climbs on the way up I stopped and checked the temps with my new laser thermometer. 185deg on the rear, 175 on the g56. Not sure if this is good or not.

I would say that is good... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . NOT hot at all!

I use the severe gear 80W90 and got a terrible shudder after towing 10k a few hundered miles interstate speeds. I pulled u/joints etc. no problem with them. Read some posts from the CARSON Dodge web site and added some liminted slip additive and it stopped my shudder on left turns and from a stop. Even talked to AAM whom said it wasn't needed BUT Carson Dodge says it is and I found some old posts on some sites saying the same deal I ran into.

This is VERY interesting... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... (AAM) American Axle who makes the differential, says limited slip additive is NOT needed, but a Dodge dealer says it is! I guess in some cases, the manufacturer doesn't quite know what is or isn't needed! Still VERY interesting!
