Sorry to hit on a subject that I know has been discussed in the past. But I just need the straight scoop on this. I run the amsoil dual filter bypass on my 03, I like the fact that its a quality unit and I truely believe that my oil stays cleaner. But I have 4 times now had the check gauge dinger go off and noticed my oil pressure dropping then return to normal. Its interesting that the dinger goes off before the oil pressure ever gets below 30psi, and it never hits zero before it is on the rise again. Now is this a true engine damaging problem ? does my motor at any point actually loose pressure to the point that it is taking longevity away or doing any real damamge ?

Clearly I would rather throw away a couple hundred $$$ on the unit and switch back to stock filters then throw away 7 grand on a motor.

Is there a fix for this ? can I mount the filters low (on the frame rail) and get rid of this problem ? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

mine did the same thing, and it turned out to be a bad oil pump. my filters are mounted low on the pass. side frame.

hope this helps

The Amsoil Tech line told me that they only recommend using the BMK-11 on an 03 or newer dodge.

It has something to do with oil pressure fluctuation, but I would have to dig up the email to get the exact response.

They want you to use the factory filter location and just the BMK-11 for your bypass, not the dual remote filter kit.

I wish I could give you more info, but this is all I have right now.

And one other thing: Your oil pressure gauge is nothing more then something to make you feel better. The gauge is run by the computer. It looks at RPM, and motor temp and puts the gauge where you think it should be. There is a 6 psi pressure switch, as long as it sees 6psi, the gauge will show you have pressure. That's why you saw the light come on before the gauge moved.

This is typical of some trucks with the electronic oil gauges. If you're really cocrned, I would temporarily install a "Direct" reading gauge to monitor your presssure to be sure. When Asmoil Inc. looked into this on the 04. 5 models, they found the actual oil pressure was not effected and the oil pressure indicating system was very sensitive.

To preclude anyone from being concerned or worried about this, Amsoil Inc. elected to "recommend using the BMK-11 system (Single Remote) on the Dodge/Cummins.
