Im comeing up on my fisrt oil change and want to run full synthetic Amsoil but i see they have 5W-30 and 15w-40 witch should i use? I dont tow alot and no modds yet :D . And what transmission and diff fluid should i use? My friend is a Wix filter dealer, are these a good choice or should i look else where?

Maintenance Schedule calls for a oil change at 7,500 miles, thats schedule "B". What are some good oils to use for first oil change?

For you I would recommend the 15W-40. The 5w-30 will give slightly better fuel economy, but is more expensive. You can use either.

For the axles 75w-90 Severe Gear is the best stuff available.

For your transmission, if you have a late 05 or 06 both the Auto and Manual take ATF+4, which Amsoil's universal ATF covers.

Amsoil and Donaldson teamed up to design their oil filter, the Donaldson Endurance ELF 7349. i would HIGHLY recommend this oil filter. Wix makes the fuel filters we get through Amsoil.

Amsoil is teamed up with several filter companies, Wox, Donaldson, and Hastings.

The Mopar is Valvoline Premium blue 15w40. You can found and use a lot of differant oils. 15w40 Delco,15w40 Rotella, etc. I changed my factory fill at 3k and it was a freebie at the dealer(first oil change) second one I went 5k and did it on a $54. 95 coupon at the dealer. Third one I went 5k and did it also on coupon at the dealer. Fouth one was at 16k or so and I changed over to Amsoil 15w40 full syn. In the FROZEN north you might want to use the lighter weight oil at least in the winter.

How about gear lube? Amsoil has "Severe Gear", at 8. 50 per qt, and they also have "long life" at 6. 70 per qt. What is the real difference between the two to justify almost 2. 00 per qt? I've also read some threads of people complaining of shudder after putting amsoil in the rear. Do both Amsoil products require the addition of their "slip lock" additive to prevent shutter? My first change I used Valvoline synthetic, but figured I switch to amsoil since i'm using it for everything else.

Believe it or not, the "Long Life" (FGR) was designed for the larger heavy duty trucks, like class 7,8,9's, that have capacities of 4 to 6 gallons of fluid in the pumpkin. Due to the larger gears and tires, the gears actually run at a slower speed, therefor the Severe gear (SVG) is formulated differently than the (FGR).

As to your differential needing the "sliplock" additive, the answer iis NO. Your AAM axle in your truck does not have clutches like the Dana axles do.

Make sure your engine is ready for synthetic oil; put some miles on it. Amsoil 15w-40 Synthetic is the best oil to use at our latitude. It is liquid at -38 degrees F. If you drive dirt roads or 4X4 I have found that the higher viscosity oil provides better lubrication and engine protection. I use 'em HARD. I live at + 9000' elevation and have not had any problem with cold weather starts. If you are a highway crusier maybe the lighter viscosity oil may be your ticket. If you do the extended oil service make sure you change your filters often and do oil analysis. Amsoil is good stuff, I have used it for more than 30 years and for 15 of 16 years in my 91 Dodge/Cummins. Try the Ams. Diesel fuel modifier each fueling. Lubes your injecter pump and nozzles, keeps them clean and acts as an anti-gel. My 91 also runs quieter and it improves mileage. Hope this helps

ahh, now i see.

any info on some folks ecxperiencing shudder with severe gear?

Ok you Amsoil guy's, I have a question for you. A couple of years ago Amsoil carried Hastings filters as a second choice to their own line. Any word on if those filters were made by the same manufacturer? And if not, why did Amsoil quite carrying them?

BSwope,

As many others, I use Amsoil products exclusively. I run it in everything I own... lawnmowers, 4-wheelers, vehicles, compressors, etc. I've used several other products as well, however I like the protection and extended drain intervals Amsoil products offer.

Currently, I'm using Series 3000 HDD 5w-30 in my Cummins (actually have Amsoil synthetics througout truck), and have for nearly 10K miles. Once at 10K miles of use, I plan to get an oil analysis done to see how the 5w-30 and new EaA air filter are protecting my engine.

My fuel mileage, with no load and averaging between 60-65mph, is right at 22mpg. The addition of several items (Amsoil synthetic products, Rokktech sensor, cold air intake, Magniflow muffler, TSB flash, and EaA air filter) has increased my fuel mileage from 19 to 22mpg (all results were hand calculated). The Amsoil seems to be the biggest contributor to the increase, about 1. 5mpg. I used Amsoil in my 2001 as well, with similar results. It works for me!

Amsoil 5w30 Heavy Duty Diesel Synthetic Motor Oil and Donaldson Endurance ELF 7349. Change the filter at 7500 miles or 6 months. Change Oil and filter at 15000 mile intervals. No Worries#ad

There is no better engine oil. Too bad it is not readily available. Their distribution system leaves a lot to be desired.

Heck, seems like half of everyone at this site is a distributor for the stuff!!
