To tailgate, or not to tailgate?

$ 2.99 diesel

It was interesting - maybe ANNOYING is a better word - to see popular items in Mexico stores with Mexican labeling, selling for a FRACTION of what they sell for just across the border - Wheaties, Duracell batteries, you name it...:rolleyes:

SO, probably not too surprising that we also refine, transport and sell fuel cheaper south of the border as well... #@$%!

Hello Gary ,

I guess I'm a simple man , are we refining (providing a service ) the crude oil Mexico has/bought ,then transporting it back via a pipe line or trucked back ? Or are we selling it direct from our own supply of crude ,refining and sending south?

The other question , how does NFTA ,GATT and any other free trade agreement play into the mess we have now a days?

Does anyone know if the "American goods " , if there still exist such an anomaly ,that are cheaper over there made here or in Mexico?

Off subject a bit ,but lets not even start on China's prefered nation trading status we granted them in the 90's . We're paying a high price for all the cheap electronics and just about every other thing a pair slave labor hands can produce.

Last weekend I heard on news diesel was cheaper in mexico than here?

I think 2. 00 or 2. 50 per gal is this true?

:)$2. 01 @ PEMEX station in Tijuana, BC as of yesterday. PEMEX is the state oil company and the stations are franchises. Only a few problems with buying in Tijuana..... bandits can take your ride with a gun, the police often shake you down for grande $ on trumped up traffic violations, and the cross border traffic is murder. BTW..... Mexican premium gas comes from the States but is still way cheaper than here.

I imagine there is not a NASDAQ or DowJones in Mexico where bullish oil speculators are pushing up prices for fun like they are here.

JD, PEMEX is owned by the Mexican government no speculators but lots of graft:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

Maybe we should nationalize the oil business in the United States and let GW run it. diesel and gas would go down several $$$$ a gallon:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

I'm all fine with fuel prices going up. So long as my wages go up. :) that isn't happening. Stimulus check is a joke.

fuel costs have tripled since i started driving. . my wages have not tripled :( i probably am going to make 10-15k less this year than the last 2 years thanks to my union being f'n useless and labour canada, and i have a house coming so i am going to go into debt with the mortgage.

rising fuel costs suck

i'm already over $5. 00 a gallon [$1. 30 a liter now]

Do they sell diesel in Mexico by the gallon or is it by the liter?

$121 yesterday to get fuel. Had to use some of that stimulus check to buy fuel. How can we stimulate the economy if we got to spend it just to get gas, fuel and groceries?

I read in the newspaper this morning that T Boone Pickens says $150 for oil before the end of summer. He should know. He is part of the group that is bidding up the price. I also read that oil will be over $120 for the next 8 years. I would bet that in 8 years we will think of $120 as the good old days of cheap oil.

Iran isnt going to attack us, North Korea isnt going to attack us. But T Boone Pickens and the other wall street speculators are destroying America. But I guess thats OK as long as its "legal"

Been that way for a while... there are guys along the border trying to figure out how much they can legally transport at any one time to save $$.

I call it "Financial Terrorism" ! I am thinking that in the near future the world will stand up and look at the few oil countries that are watching and laughing and decide to come together and take their oil!

I guess I shouldn't complain about paying $4. 54/gal. here in the good ol midwest. That sounds like the deal of the month compared to everyone else. #@$%!

$4. 65 here in Reno last night. Up . 10 in just a couple of days. It's getting old. They tell us it's not a supply issue; there is plenty of oil coming in. The problem is, it's coming in from people who don't like us. OPEC can pump all we want, but they also say, "OK, that'll be $130/barrel". Then our illustrious senate leader, Dingy Harry, tells his constituents that drilling here isn't the answer because we're getting all the oil we could refine. If we did drill here, and oil was a mere $100/barrel, that would still be better. On the other hand, they know we'll pay this much, so the chances of prices dropping is pretty slim.

Interesting video about how speculators are swamping normal market forces and driving the price irrespective of fundamentals. Here's another. The analyst on the left tells it like it is, and gives a bit of an insight as to how distillate prices are getting driven up.
