I was reading the latest issue of the TDR Mag yesterday and read somewhere ( I forgot where) that some of the lift pump problems can be attributed to shifting the manuals at high rpm-3200. It said that the rapid reduction of fuel flow is what hurts it. I can see that this will be a problem for me because this is how I drive alot of the time, you know trying to accelerate a 6800lb vehicle like a 3000lb Corvette. So I guess this leaves three options 1. Keep your foot on the gas when you shift but is that hard on the clutch? 2. Buy a few extra lift pumps and get lots of practice changing them. 3. Drive the truck like the 6800lb vehicle that it is, ya right!!!!!:D

I sure can't see any way you could "powershift" your truck without seriously over revving your engine. The gears are way to far apart. Thanks for the thought on the lift-pump.

The page you are referring to is 104. It is not the lift pump they were addressing but the VP-44 injection pump. This puzzles me because all of us coast down hills in gear, which would seem to "starve" the injection pump ( remember: Hi RPM downshifts and little fuel flow ) more than a brief downshift. Especially if one has an exhaust brake. Wish there was more detail given in the article. I'm sure there will be more discussion about this.
