With all the talk about the lift pumps going out i wonder when mine will fail, just bought a new 2001 Dodge Cummins 2500 4X4. I have a 1991 6. 2 GM diesel and it has a inline pump mounted down on the frame just in front of the fuel tank. Its 10 yrs old and has 250k on it and the pump has never failed. I have seen posts where guys have changed pumps on dodges 3 times in 30K, never hear any problems on a GM 6. 2 or 6. 5 or a Ford Powerstroke. I browse the GM and Ford forums and there is very little problem, if any at all with thier pumps, i dont know if they use the same pumps, i do know they dont use the %&$#$ pump Dodge does. Has anyone put a GM or Ford pump on a Dodge, i dont know what psi or gpm they produce but they must be plenty as they run them engines with no problem. They do have a bypass from the inj. pump and they do return a lot of fuel to the tank. They are a inline pump about 4 in. long and about 2 in across. Unless i hear that somebody has tried them and they dont work on a Dodge i am going to put one on, I will leave the original pump were it is and install a GM pump by the tank.

You had better test that GM!Some think that DC has problems and it's nothing to the trouble GM has. The difference being that most GM drivers don't know S___T. IT's not all their fault because the 6. 2-6. 5 will sometimes run with a bad lift pump. Their lift pump is controled by the oil pressure-switch which are known to fail before you get it home. Just because the lift pump runs doesn't mean it's moving fuel!I know because I've worked on 100's. Most 91's the timing was set after ,bet you didn't check that either!

Not hooked to the oil presure-switch!That sums up what I said before!Read a manual before you beek-off!I didn't say you or all but if the shoe fits wear it.

and the winner is

One of the reasons I like this forum is because it contains good information. It also isn't normally a "bash fest". I will say this though. GM used to be the only thing I'd drive. Until I found something better. By the way, I'd say this round goes to juicedcummins. :p

I have only one comment; bashing each other or other trucks and owners nobody wins!!!:( I have seen this happen before as has most here on occasion and it never is productive. Just my thoughts and has nothing to do with our lift pumps. I am at 27,000 about and so far no lift pump problems probably not the greatest pressure but adequate to date. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

PEACE ON EARTH AND IN TDR!!! :D

Yellow,

I've though about the very same thing about using the Ford lift pump because you never hear about them going out. Well you can't, because the Ford pump supplies over 50psi of pressure... it's just a 'lil too much.

Thanks for the info, do you supose one could put a pressure regulator or a bypass on a Ford pump and run the excess back in the tank, There are a couple of extra fittings on the tank to hook on to. Do you know the psi on a GM pump? As you said one never hears much about a Ford pump giving trouble, same with a GM.

GM Lift Pumps

All,

I currently own a 6. 5 GM (1995) which is on the second lift pump and second oil pressure switch. The pumps run 3. 5-4. 5 psi with engine running, about 7 psi with engine off (checked it with gauges myself).

I wouldn't vote for using one of these on your trucks - just not in the same league as far as pressure goes and probably reliability. My hardware was changed at 76,000 miles and now I have 114,000.

I'm on this site as I don't believe I'll own a GM much longer. I'm on fuel injection pump #4 and even with warranty that is too much. Almost need quick connectors to swap out the pump at this rate and some guys have had up to 12 pumps before their problems were fixed.

lift pump out??????????????

brothers 99 just put a std ez on it

brandon said lift pump is going

will dealer give my brother a hassle

since ez std box on it

bill

Just unplugand take off the EZ before ya bring it in. They shouldn't check for any fueling mods of computer signs, the lift pump is such a common problem. They should just replace it. If they do hassle him and say he has to buy it, get it from Cummins, you'll spend about $150 compared to $350.

What replacement lift pump have other guys used that they put back by the tank? says it has 16 psi + had to rig the guage to not peg it.

Would that make the injector pump last longer by having more preasure?

I've been of the board for a day and see that you have pulled you're remarks made yesterday.

There is piles of info here in the TDR I am a fairly new to the board myself. The one thing we all have to do is print the truth because bad info costs $$$ and time. Most say their own exp not hear-say and have done research to back it up. I will not print something if it isn't so.

You had a valid question about lift pumps but you struck a nerve with statement about others never having a problem. I know diff as well as many others.

THIS FLAME HAS BURNED OUT!

WELCOME-aboard {NICE RIDE}
