About six years ago I replaced my steering box because of a leak. About four months later I replaced the hydroboost unit because it sprung a leak. Four months after that I removed the vacuum pump and power steering pump because of an oil leak and put in a Borgenson 80032 power steering pump since the truck had over 300k on it. The truck steers perfectly in both directions but when the engine/fluids warm up it sounds like the pump groans while turning to the right but only at slow engine speeds. " for example slowing to turn into your driveway. The resistance doesn't change in the steering wheel, it's just a groan. I almost never hear it in the winter when the temp is 32 or less. I'm using Valvoline power steering fluid bar code #074130790896. Nothing has changed in about five years and I've been on trips over 2000 miles towing my trailer with no problems. Just an irritating groan while turning to the right at slow speeds when the fluids are warm!
Any ideas? Thanks, David

I bought and installed a new $185.00 Borgeson power steering pump a few years ago. It failed suddenly at 75,000 miles of operation. For several months prior to failing, symptoms similar to yours occurred - only mine was a slow speed left turn onto my street.

I replaced the Borgeson pump with a Napa remanufactured pump for $57.00 and that pump has currently logged 100,000 miles. It is quiet.

I know I didn't offer anything in the way of help, but maybe others may reply with a similar Borgeson experience.

I recommend Red Line Power steering fluid. I switched in '18 on my '01 and no more groan. Same with my '91. They both had the intermittent groan before. I have resealed both of the steering gears and the '01 hydraboost resealed. I also added power steering filters to both trucks and cooler to the '01. This fluid was recommended by several TDR members. It works.

330k on the '91 and 370k on the '01 both power steering pumps are original.

If you haven't flushed the power steering system this might be a good time to do it. I too use the Red Line synthetic.

I suction out all of the power steering fluid from the reservoir and replace with new synthetic Vavaline power steering fluid at each oil change. I learned this from Caj Flynn who did this and got an amazing amount of mileage from his trucks.
