I have searched/perused many paint threads. Some have painted/applied bed liner to specific areas, etc. During my searches today, i did not come across anyone who had their truck repainted. What you see in the pictures happened in 18 months. Prior to this, everything appeared normal. If you have had your truck repainted, was it a complete repaint or partial focusing on the affected areas? And may I ask at what cost?

Would be a complet job with this damage.
All your paint is close to flacking of, not just the one that's already gone.
It's about the same as why to change both headlight bulbs at the same time when one burns out.

My neighbor did a couple panels at a time on his 2006 as the clear coat failed, then hail damage got the entire truck painted. I think he spent a couple thousand on the partial repairs.

Your trucks paint looks better than mine.
I've been pricing a total sand down and repaint here in Kalyforrnya and the cheapest I've found is $10k. (And that's at Maaco of all places!)
That is of course, even IF they'll take it on. Most shops I visited don't want to touch it and add a premium to make you go away.

Go to MX and get the job done for a fraction.

I got the Dakota done in 2018 at a little Mexican body shop a couple miles from the house for $2,800. I pulled all the glass except for the windshield, trim, etc. so that saved them a couple days work and it ended up with a better quality job than if they would have masked around stuff. Looks just as good today.

If you're willing to pull the trim, glass and have old tires and wheels, they'll usually have a better price since they won't have to use their supplies and labor to cover or remove those items. Back in the day, Earl Shive Paint shop, would provide a great paint job! Bad part was they painted everything! You'd have to do all the prep on trim and glass. I've seen some pretty good "barn" paint jobs done around me. They have a concrete floor and get a roll of 6mil plastic to fashion a "paint booth". I've seen those blow up paint booths for around 3K. That might be an option to go in on with a couple buddies. With a little practice, you might pull off a good job for thousands less!

So you had your truck repainted and 18 months later the clear coat is toast? ? ?

Are you wanting to apply bed liner to your failed clear coat areas? ?

I think the clear coat started to fail, and degraded to that point over an 18 month period.
I've seen others go the cheap route when the clear coat fails, and buff it out, then reapply a new clear coat. It doesn't look as good as original, but can look pretty good.

Really nice looking Dakota SAG! BTW, I have a drivers side interior trim piece that fits over the door from the dash to the rear of the cab. Bought it from MOPAR for the 1990 extended cab Dakota my daughter had. Never installed. If you believe it would fit your truck I could arrange to get it to you. No charge. Damn thing was 100 bucks new but I'm just looking for someone who could use it rather than trash it. I believe you are in CA as I am (central CA) but don't know what area.

I can take one but it's the driver side plastic trim piece that fits over the door against the headliner. I believe these were a frequent problem back in the day. I should be able to get a part number that might show the piece on line. I'm not good at trying to post photos. Will look today.

That's the piece but on an extended cab so longer. I believe like Sags truck. Thanks Scott. Wish I knew how to do that and find arrows to. I'm a computer idiot.

If I recall correctly they had a tendency to crack lineally (longways). I believe because of their length. The regular cab might not have had the issue. So look for fractures I would suggest.

I wish I had the name of the paint shop but I saw their work and it was immaculate. Took a month and ran $5500. San Diego area.
