Kraut, the way I've always dealt with stuck drums is with Liquid Wrench to the studs then a few good whacks with a sledge hammer, they always have come off without damage.

Steve McDaniel also posted a trick I haven't tried, but sounds like it would work. Put the rear of your truck on stands remove the wheels, start the engine put it in gear then apply the brakes while the drums are spinning. I would think that if you did this in forward and reverse they would break free,it's just rust holding them on.

Hi Folks,
Been reading this thread on rear brakes and have been wanting to pull the drums on my 01 to check on pad wear. This is my first truck and I am having difficulty getting them off. Do they come off similar to carsa nd vans or do I need to undo the 8 bolts and then pull the drums. It appears as if the drums are attached to the "hub". Step by step advice appreciated as the service manual does not go into detail. Thanks

Illflem and Landshark,
Thank you for the advice. I guess I have to wait till it gets warmer to pound on the drums. I will also try to do the jackit up trick and roll and brake thing. I was hoping I would not have to undo the 8 bolts and remove the hub.

I posted last week I had a problem with my brakes after I put a wheel cylinder kit in. I could not get the new shoes to come together at the top. Well I found the problem. I had the spreader bar in backwards. Thanks for the replys it helped.
