pwknapp,
Let me try to walk you thru it as I had the same problem.
- go to Windows explorer and create a new file called "Smarty Jr", then under that create "driver" and "downloads"
- to the Madselectronics and download the driver for the version of Windows you are running. Most likely, it will be XP, so you want the CDM2. 00 (this will be the driver that allows your computer to recognize the Smarty Jr).
When you double click on the driver, pick "open" and not "save". When it opens, drag and drop all of the files into your "driver" file folder. This will allow it to unzip automatically without that 7-zip that I cant figure out...
- once you finish that, connect the Smarty Jr to the computer and you should get a "new hardware found" screen.
- pick "NO" and then "Next"
- pick "install from a list or specific location", then "Next"
- check the box that says "include this locaction in the search" and then click "browse" and go find the "driver" folder you created earlier.
- pick "Next"
you should get a message that reads "please wait while the wizard installs the software"
You should be good to go.
Then, you need to download "7-zip", the newest download version and the "downloader" for the version of Windows you have.
This last part is the causing me grief, but I'm still trying...
Good luck.
I hope the Smarty people are reading this and having discussions about making this easier for us...
