Well, it was civil.

Sly,

DTT customers were called the wolf pack for exactly the same reason you posted on this thread.

I started this thread because I had two questions.

1. Are ATS owners happy with their trannies?

2. At what speed do they use lockup?

I am getting my answers.

Do you have an ATS transmission? NO

Do you have anything positive to contribute to this discussion? NO

I didnt know anything about a dyno run next month. Point me to the details, and I will see if it is possible. I would be interested in going!

Stakeman,

So how does JConley's post about DTT customers and Bob Wagner answer your two questions. Did they have anything positive to contribute to this discussion? NO -- Like he said, lighten up.

Sorry SlyBones, I don't think I can calm down. I am tired of the wolf pack mentality. Its not just about auto's anymore. There seems to be wolf packs now for everything, from trannies and clutches, to oil. I don't know when the members of the TDR became so opinionated, but it has been showing its ugly head this year. The mob's are not helping the TDR or its members, especially the new members. For lack of better words. Why can't we all just get along?

I will step off my soap box now.

To answer the original question posted,

I think my ATS transmission setup is great, I drive it like a madman (I have many witnesses!), it shifts great firm and on time!

I havent had a chance to install the Lockup controller yet (been sitting in its box for more then a month now).

I'll need to the lock up controller on before the TDR this week, so I can have some more fun!!

I'm very serious about this!! so dont have a cow, Please.

I have stayed off the transmission threads before because i just didnt have anything to ask or contribute. well I am now looking for a transmission. I wanted to get one in around the end of this month (august). I have heard of three people that have had trouble with valve bodies and a few more with shift related problems. can those of you that have an ATS transmission address this? did you guys have any shift point or valve body problems with your installs? who did the work? did you have to play around with the TV cable to get them to act right? I now have around 400HP and plan to stop around 500. I like everything the ATS converter stands for, I am just leary about a new product and trust my resources. BUT, I stood and listened to Clint and ?? at Muncie for over an hour with Van Haisley and his son drilling them. they talk a good game, no lets make that a great game. but is it worth $900 more? i know he promised to send Van a few to play with and told him he would buy him a new transmission if they broke on him. that is a HUGE statement. I DO plan to call Van and ask if he ever recieved them.

At this point i am leaning towards DTT for two reasons, price is number one and reported troubles number two. I will not drag names into this and they are not known for complaining on here. they are legit, and i just would like to see what the trend is. maybe they just got bad units, early on.

again, if you reply to this in a negative way, plan on that post being deleted. I will not put up with it. and no one wants to hear it.

now come-on, sell me an ATS transmission :D

you could blow me over with a feather. feel free to take it offline if you'd like. I would understand, either way.

I'm not here to sale you anything. I probably know as many people that have had problems with DTT or BD as you do with ATS. Nothing is perfect.

When I had mine installed at ATS I did have shift points changed. That was due to my gearing, tire size, and where and how my truck is used.

All of the transmission builders have stepped it up as of late. Make calls, ask questions.

What problems? Mine has worked flawlessly. I had a complete rebuild at ATS in Wheat Ridge, Col.

The only problem I can recall right now is when somebody had had an ATS valve body installed by a buddy and things went a little wrong, and I believe ATS sent them new parts.

As to the money... Quality costs more but pays for itself in the long run.

I plan on getting many hundreds of thousands of miles out of my TripleLok TC, and probably having the trans itself rebuilt every 150,000 or so, as it becomes necessary.

Looks like it's time to take the computer out and shoot it because I agree with Bob also.

Talk to Bill and the guys at ATS. They are the only ones that matter since they are responsible for the product and any support you need down the road. You will be happy with either one. Getting this upgrade is a personal decision. It doesnt become political until after the fact, and you post on the TDR.

Just A Note

We just wanted to address some of your concerns about the valve body and shift problems. We made the decision to ship our product to shops and general repair facility’s to help gain better coverage to customers that want to use our product. With doing this it can make it harder to get the right information when building the transmission for the particular year model. There are often differences with valve body combinations causing shifting problems.

This has been on occasion, our fault for not getting all of the information to our builders and shipping department. We have had limited problems like this, but never the less it is our responsibility to do a better job to help the customer.

Due to the fact that we have decided to work with this type of parts coverage we have found that human error can happen on both sides. We feel that we give good response when a problem arises with support and service. The support and customer service is our goal. The transmissions and torque converters carry our 3-year warranty and this means our commitment of service. We don’t walk on water but are trying to continue to give the best in product and service for the industry.

When a transmission is removed and reinstalled the throttle cable needs to always be checked. The throttle cable can get stretched with age. As far as our commitment to Van Haisley at Haisley Machine & Repair we have been waiting for Van to give us the year and application for their needs. As far as our statement regarding the transmission and torque converter it stands to be our standard to any customer not just Van Haisley if you brake it we will fix it under our warranty. As for the cost of our products we feel that the product is a quality part and with the 3 Year 65,000 Mile warranty is a value for the dollar.

thanks for the reply Don, I didnt mean to drag you away from your work.

I'll get my note pad out and give you a call. like everyone here has told me to do :D I just didnt want to waste your time until i know (or think i know) what i want. or until I'm ready to commit.

Todd,

I have preached on these very forums about doing your homework - for any purchase that matters. I did mine, and I have chosen ATS. For my application, it is my opinion that ATS was a far superior fit for the circumstance. I tow daily - usually 14,000 pounds, (but I did tow 48,000 pounds last week - what a fool I am... :) - obliterated the right wheel bearings, but that's another story) - BUT, the trans is still as strong as the day it was installed, and I have never had a lick of VB problems. I put it in at 8,000 miles, and now have 28,000 miles on the truck. I have no regrets, and the cost difference was nominal, if any at all.

Bottom line is - make the right decision in your mind about whats the best fit for your circumstance. You'll be happier, and will never second guess your decision.

HTH

Joel
