well i've been testing www.bd-power.com new anti bark valve for a couple of months and it's been working great.

Basically it controls the off throttle surge. This is normally present as you let off the throttle during high boost situations, normally under low RPM situations. The basic kit is what is now available the advanced kit should be ready in 3-4 weeks. The basic only protects against surge when throttle is released to a idle position. This should cure about 2/3rds of all surge conditions. While the advanced kit will control the surge dynamically. The valve used is 2" in diameter, and is one of the largest flowing valves produced.

i have the the throttle one and it works great. for everyone with a hx-40 this could be a turbo saver!! you should contact www.bd-power.com for more info. everytime you let off the throttle you get a little swoosh sound from under the hood.

here is a pic.

been looking at a blow off valve for a while now, that looks like a very quility unit. I think it would save LOTS of turbos, not just HX40's :)

I'd get one just for the noise.

Guess I'll have to get me one :D

ANY Drawbacks?

This would save turbo's but so will a real wastegate(external) but this setup is more user friendly and I for one could really benefit from it... ... Hum!

Good post!

there are no drawbacks i have found yet. unless you think everytime you let off the throttle and you hear the air brake noise is a bad thing. :D i have purposely run my twins up to 60psi and slid my foot off the throttle and i have had no ill effects. this is a valve we have talked about for years, but nobody has ever built one for our application. the gasers have them but they don't flow enough air. it is nice that www.bd-power.com has come up with a system that works.

Couldn't help but notice ...

the maple leaf. I didn't realize until now that BD-Power was a Canadian company. :D

Jim, are the throttle position and pressure setpoints adjustable? Does it operate using a simple "AND" circuit where two (or possibly more) conditions must be met to open the valve?

Not that you were confused, but for the others this is not a means to control boost pressure it is a Blow off Valve, meant to prevent off throttle turbo surge.

lol,,,I just want to keep boost and flow to the right and under the surge line on my HX40... which is what a Blow Off Valve is designed to do..... now since Holset took the usefull info off their website, I have to go home and consult my notes.

Cool, this means I can set the waste gate at 50 now and not have to worry about the Huff Huff noise because it will not be coming from the turbo... :D

The Basic kit detects when the throttle is at an idle position, then activates the valve. So there is a mechanical and an electronic AND happening (boost pressure AND idle throttle). This kit was design to protect 2/3 of all surges.

The Advanced kit will be much more programmable.

Well, guess who is in the 1/3 of the population? ME ;)

I don't usually bark my turbo when I go from WOT to idle, I bark it when I powershift from 5th to 6th, and my my clutch decides not to hold the power, so I have to back off to about 50% throttle, then I get a little, whossh, whoosh, from the AirFilter. (3,000RPM to 2,000RPM)

So is the advanced kit adjustable like this ?

This kit will work for me, just wondering if the advanced kit will work better for me.

Thanks,

Hey Cristian, you guys saw me at the track, why didn't you tell me you actually have a blow off valve out? I quickly glanced at this sitting on the table last week in canada but didn't think anything about what it really was.

I think I'm the only nutcase regularly racing a 6spd at the track and I bark my HX40 on most every shift the whole way down.

So this IS the blow off valve I've been waiting for right?

this would work perfect for you. you might be even able to hook it upto the clutch peddle. that way every time you push in the clutch it will activate. you could use a 2 postion switch. 1 for the throttle and 1 for the clutch.
