Howdy, fellas. The anti-lock and brake lights are lit up on the message center in my 91. 5 W-250. Do I have a bad sensor? Some sort of general brake problem? Thanks.

I don't know all the symptoms, but here is what happened to mine. The wires on the back box, on the rear axle broke off. The light is lit. I havent gotten behind the glove box to unplug them yet... . after two years. I don't even notice it anymore. But the passengers sure do. :-laf

The RWAL system in these trucks is marginal at best- a safety hazard when something goes awry. The electronics dont hold up as well as I think they should under the use, but it's what we have.

If you are happy with the brake performance, you can unplug the box behind the glove box and turn the lights off. With the lights lit, the RWAL is not functioning anyway.

If you;d like a little more rear brake bias, bypass the hydraulic valve in the rear, and have straight brakes all around. You'll have to unplug the box behind the glove box to put the lights out.

Hey MR my truck did the same thing and it was the rear brakes needed to be adjusted tighter. Simple fix for a change!

I unplugged mine behind the glovebox 2 years ago and haven't looked back.

Does anyone really keep their gloves in there?

Funny you ask that Jay-

I just read in a magazine Dodge (of all people) conducted a survey about gloveboxes. They say 84% of people do not keep gloves in there. In a related matter, 44% of people store the title for their vehicle in the glovebox.

Actually the reason I asked is that earlier in the day a friend and I were talking about old TV shows and comedians.

He mentioned Police Squad, and Leslie Neilson and talked about that episode where he asked his partner to get something out of the glovebox and for several seconds and thru some conversation his partner was pulling gloves out of the glovebox... there was like 50 pairs of gloves in there. It was :-laf:-laf

JLEONARD, that's the kind of Humor I can Understand and throughly Enjoy. Never saw the episode but very easy to imagine, saw it plainly while reading the post. (and can still see it while even thinking of it)

I had a 91. 5 w250 several years ago and the ABS came on and would blow a fuse, can't remember which one but I could still drive it. It was a work truck so I would replace the fuse and it would last a few days and blow again. Checked the ABS sensor on the axle and module behind the glove compartment. Everything checked out. While changing oil one day, I found that the wiring harness on the cowl above the valve cover had dropped down on the valve cover and had rubbed the insulation off the wires and shorted them out on the valve cover. It only rubbed occasionally and only when the engine was running. Ten minutes, some butt splices, and tape and it was good as new.
