On the roads where I live they use calcium chloride instead of salt. It also corrodes things badly. What has worked for me is spraying heavy duty silicone over all the exposed metal,rims etc. when they are clean and dry,below freezing doesn't seem to bother it. It forms a clear long lasting protective film and is cheap,about $2. 50 a can,two cans will do your truck easily. Good car wax will also help.
