I was wondering if anybody in California with a 12 valve truck may be thinking about an on board air system in the next six months or so. The reason I ask? I spoke with Brad Kilby of Onboardair about a mechanical system for the 12v trucks and he said as soon as he gets a 12v truck into the shop he'll most likely have something available. He has a 24v kit available now.

One of the 24v members recently posted about their new system from Onboardair and that got me researching. I thought 12 volt electrical systems were all that would ever be available, but maybe not. I would rather run a mechanical system. The heart of his kits are basically heavy brackets that enable a compressor to run off the belt. His 24v bracket relocates the alternator a bit. Anyway, he needs a 12v truck to do the R&D and I'm in Tennessee. If anybody's interested Kilby Enterprises is located in Burbank. PM me if you're interested. Thanks.

On Board Air

I hate to sound dumb, but your system is a air compressor system of some kind? This would replace the 12v systems that are common?

Help me out here.

jrobinson1 has been doing a lot of resarch on this the past year. Maybe he will chime in soon. I think his latest thought is to get the pump off of the 8. 3. it goes were the vacuum pump is and then run an electric vacuum pump. He knows this a little better than i do. I have made sugestions about running the early Ford A/C compressors as air compressors in our trucks, ... a lot of the 4X4 guys do this.

the Kilby Onboard air system is the (York) F*rd A/C compressor system. Kilby has the brackets for the 24 valve engines. He wants a 12 valve truck so that he can build up a kit. Cummin makes an air compressor that is driven off of the accessory drive where the vacuum and p/s pumps are driven. To use it the P/S pump also has to be changed to a different style because ours will hit the motor mount.

Hey HVAC...

Yeah HVAC, it is a compressed air system I'm talking about. There are quite a few good 12 volt electrical systems on the market, but generally speaking, mechanical systems are better (more air). Kilby Enterprises is a leading mechanical air supply conversion kit manufacturer that has a kit for the 24 valve trucks. They don't see any reason why a 12 valve kit couldn't be developed, they just need to get one in the shop to play with.

On Board Air

I hope some one from Cal jumps on this soon. I live in Wa State or I would do it. I've emailed Kilby and asked for a setup to go on a CTD 12 valve earlier this summer. I've put 2 of these A/C Compressor conversions on my off-road trail rigs. 1 Toyota and 1 Chevota, they work great. I use them for just about everthing from running a nail gun to pumping up the air bags on the Dodge.

Oh, and his answer about my email question to him. He would make the 12 valve bracket set up, just as soon as he gets enough request. Thank you Clinton in Tennessee for get this going again.

Air System

Roger that. Non elec air compressor.

We have a number of guys with 12 volt systems but they are slow. Really ticks the guys off when they have to wait a long time between honks on the AIR HORNNNNNs:eek:

I haven't seen a mechanical system.

I knew you really wanted a set of horns on the Rocket HVAC, you were just waiting for the right amount of air to power your set. I am sure your horns will be overkill like everything else you do. ;) I would do it in a hart beat but there shop is a ways from San Jose so I guess we will have to find someone else for this job.

I live about 1 hour from Burbank and could be interested in the on-board air system. My only problem is that the truck is used in my tractor business to haul my tractor and bobcat to job sites and is used almost daily. If they don't need it for long maybe we could make arrangements. I currently have a small electric air compressor that I use to inflate my airbags, but have always wanted a larger compressor so I could fill a tractor or bobcat tire on site if I pick up a nail etc. E-mail me with details on who to contact and I will follow up on this.

Thanks, Bob

Wonderful!

Bob Horrell,

You've made my day (maybe). I'll send you a PM, but you could just click on the Onboardair.com link above in this thread (I can't figure out how to post a link) and go to the 'Contact Us' link on their site. Call them and ask to speak to Brad Kilby. He told me that R&D typically only took a couple of hours. I would imagine that if he thought interest was suitable he'd be willing to make arrangements for your schedule. Whatever you do, don't just show up unannounced at his shop. There's a whole big warning about that on their website. Thanks, standby for a PM.
