I recently put a screw through the gas tank on the top-front where it is directly below the rear seat. I would go with the TF 54 gallon replacement but am not sure as to whether it would fit. Before people start saying that it would I should say that the floor under the rear seat has been pushed down about 2 inches to allow four 10's to fit under the seat while keeping the seat at factory specs. So as of right now the sheet metal sits about a 1/4 inch away from the factory tank at the top front corner. If the TF is no closer than the factory at this point than I will gladly go with it, but suspect due to its size and the fact that the top-front corner is square versus rounded on the factory, that I will not have room to accommodate it.

Can plastic tanks be sealed? Does the TF tank have factory clearances between itself and the body? Anyone know a fuel tank fabricator in the Seattle area?

Also let me know as to whether those swapped out factory tanks are for sale and what ya'll would like for them. Thanks

I would attempt to repair the stock tank if only dealing with screw puncture on the top side. My guess is the tank is polyethylene, if so, 300 deg. plus or minus a bit should be enough to weld or fuse the hole back together.

Since you likely don't have a thermostat controlled heating iron to help with the plastic weld, you might use a cooking thermometer to tell when a appropriate sized piece of steel is heated to 300 deg. (using a torch of some type for a heat source), then VERY carefully try to heat and seal the hole.

After giving it my best effort, I'd sand the area around the hole and seal it with whatever magic stuff the auto parts store sold for tank repair, if nothing better is available, JBWeld is one possibility.

Good luck, Ronnie

Camping World sell a repair kit that will fix it. I fixed a plastic gass tank on my weed eater years ago and still no leaks.
