Which transmission has the highest overdrive?

That's what I get for complaining. My wife just called and asked if I wanted the good news or the bad news first. She said the bad news was I got a rejection letter for a job I applied for. The good news was my turbo came. Job? What Job? Priorities.

I called JR last night and he said he would have the rest out Friday (no April Fools). Can't wait ether. New Mach3s new output shaft and the turbo man.

Yeah I called him last week and mine is one of the ones to go out this Friday. I have a FASS, Edge COMP, Jammer 3 nozzles, and this turbo to install. :)

Don't go calling JR a whole bunch. How do you expect him to finish my new injector pump if he's on the phone all day.

I'll be putting mine in this weekend, God willing. And after I put the first 200 mi. on it I will post my impressions. I'm not sure, however, what a difference I will see with my mild set up.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Mine is doing great. Spools just like my stocker, gets to 20PSI in a hurry it was very hard to keep it down for break-in. It does get a tab bit hotter than Chris led me to believe... . I think I will get that ironed out soon. He and I are both running LARGE amounts of fuel.

Turbo is very nice, but my headgasket didn't like it very much. :{ :{ :{ Making a midnight run to Indiana tomorrow night after work. Gonna have JR o-ring my head for me & install some 60lb Valve springs. Oo.

So this doesn't flow as much air as predicted or advertised then? I will take some measurements when I get mine to see how big the comp wheel is since no one was able to provide that info. I will post up my findings. I will measure the turbine wheel as well inducer and exducer on both sides. i might have to go with stage 3 nozzles instead of 4 with this turbo and my EDGE Comp.

I never said it did not flow as much air as advertised please believe I am not slamming this turbo. I just believe "I" may be running a tad to much fuel for it. JR said this turbo will support 475HP. Well I'm probably right around that. I hit 430HP on the stock charger with my previous 97 with a #10 plate full fwd & PDR 370's. Now I have a "HOTTER" plate from JR, same 370's, and a set of his Laser Cut DV's. I still believe this turbo does everything AS ADVERTISED however I blew my headgasket to soon.

Well, it took a little longer than I had hoped, but she's in. Only two real issues were having to tangle with the oil return line a bit, which was previously mentioned, and I ended up with about a 3" gap between the down pipe and the rest of the exhaust system. Took it to the local exhaust guy and got it fixed. I must say it sounded pretty cool driving it like that, though.

I think I will be happy with this turbo, especially once she's broken in. That will be the challenge, cause it does spool pretty well. I will report after that point.

Just wanted to say thanks to J. R. for putting this together for us and for taking the time to return a call about my install issues (he was working on GotSmoke's rig at the time). Also, thanks to Chris for setting the group buy up. And lastly, to Mark Harris (GotSmoke) who made himself available by phone for questions, as well.

At what PSI of boost did your HG pop? Maybe you are a bit overfueled for this turbo? Maybe your drive pressures are the problem and not boost PSI?

Just throwing this out there for discussion.

Glad you got it in NoCal, hope you get those first 200 miles soon. It's gonna be hard keeping your foot out of it!

Does the v-band section bolt on to the exhaust housing, or is the exhaust housing all one piece. I guess if I wait till end of next week, I can look at mine.

I'm thinking I might be a little over-fueled for it too... ..... however Chris's truck (clawson) is set up IDENTICAL to mine and he has nothing but GREAT things to say about his.

I'm not quite sure what PSI the headgasket let go at..... however I never saw 40psi from break in--to HG failure... ... . however when we pulled the head I took my gasket to JR for him to look at. As soon as I held it up he started counting... ... . 1, 2, 3, 4, ... ... up to 8!  The previous owner had the timing modified by a performance shop I will not name... ... when I checked the timing about a month or so ago it was at 32. 5* BTDC!!! :--) Back then JR told me I was on borrowed time after finding that out and he reminded me of that when I showed him the gasket. The new turbo just kinda did 'er in.

I may have to look into the drive pressures your talking about... . I know very little about it. However, I have a freshly O-ringed head on my truck now. :-laf

Dan, I was just glad to be able to help. JR called me after we left to get your # said he was gonna call and check on ya. Glad you got it all done ok.

I was notified that my turbo was shipped yesterday so they should all be sent because I told JR to send mine last. Wasn't in a hurry. I have seen several installs, but no final feed back on how they were working. It would be nice to see some info. Be sure to include what turbo was replaced. Dyno numbers would be good also.

JR told me he had one that had a broken turbine wheel and it had to sit for 24 hours till the crazy glue dried. I guess that must be yours. :-laf Sorry, bad joke.

DARN!!!!!! :-laf :-laf :-laf

I noticed someone said earlier that you should not have to break it in anymore than 50mi, THIS IS NOT TRUE

This turbo needs to be broke in 250mi. The only hard part about installation is the fact that the oil return line needs to be bent a little to go around the wastegate, also many will have a small gap between downpipe and exhaust, to fix this all i did was to loosen the clamps on mine and move it up a little(the whole exhaust). You should be able to do this also unless your hangers are welded on like factory.

Chris
