Anybody using Motorguard Bypass Oil Filters

Any experience with Torco Diesel Oils?

I am waiting to see if anyone has tried thes also. The disclaimer about primary cooling for a diesel towing combined weight of 18,000 lbs stopped me. My truck and trailer come in at 17,850 combined, so I am waiting on the fence for now.

I guess the HP gain depends on how much HP loss the belt driven fan robs. I'm guessing 27???? ;) You do have to remove the stock fan, right?

The stock fan will be gone. I'm thinking it will certainly be well worth the investment on the competition level and for guys wanting the added hp. It will move more air and cooler better than the stocker. Guys that two - watch the warning on GVW towing. It's an awesome looking setup though - I'll post some first hand pics as soon as it arrives.

#262 price

There are a couple of online sources showing it close to $500 and thats what I found locally as well. Maybe someone else has better luck... ... . Chris

They run around $500+ depending on who you buy em from.

I am waiting for the 3rd gen model, to to see if these can be adapted. Be great for cooling the engine bay down before a race. The mileage and power increases come from the lack of resistance compared to the factory fan.

I though I read were the stocker flows way more then these fans

I couldn't wait last year and installed there universal mount Monster Electric fan #290 same CFM 5500 was a cinch to make brakets, and I like the black abs over the aluminum.

I set up two fans without the shrouding on my 93. With my fiver on I sit just under 16K. I made a trip up the hill on I-70 out of Denver heading west pulling the fiver. Couldn't pull the hill. Temps skyrocketed up to 250- 260. Pulled over and waited for it to cool. Made the last mile up the hill and was 250 again. I later pulled head, changed the head gasket as it was leaking. Pulled fans off. Replaced stock fan and clutch..... no problems since. I know that it would have been better if I had shrouding covering both the fans, but I was lucky to get the two on the radiator, as it was not a kit. Each fan had its own shroud and as much as I can figure covered the rad 75 to 80 percent. The fans combined cfm was rated at 5,000.

I could never figure a couple of things out...

1- I was pulling the hill at 45 mph. My simple mind thinks that at 45 there should be enough forced airflow to dissipate the heat with just the wind blowing across the radiator. If 45 is not fast enough, how fast would a guy have to go? Were the fans blocking air flow? I doubt the fans moved an equal amount of air to equal the truck moving down the road at 50 mph. So at some speed the truck was pushing the fans when they were on.

2- When the truck was sitting (running) with the AC on the fan would not keep up with the heat it was generating, and the the pop offs would blow on the pump.

3- The radiator on the first gen is small for the truck in comparison to the new trucks.

4- Even without a load, the truck itself going up a good hill like the pass over the Continental divide in Montana, would get on the hot side (230) if I had my foot in it hard.

The example of the pass out of Denver was the worst time I had.

ok so all in all whats a better deal out of these fans and which one proves it?. . the idea has got me hooked but is it better cool down and better warm ups with it??

Well, Summit raised the price on the Monster 290, their site shows that it's now over 5 bills. The one with the aluminum shroud will most likely be more expensive than that when it's finally available. I'd love to get something like this, but I'm usually right at the 18000 pound limit when towing, sometimes even a bit higher, so I guess I'll just have to stick with the stock fan. For you guys that are pulling sleds, it should work great.

What I really wish is that Horton still had a fan clutch and fan available to fit our trucks. There's nothing better than opening the hood when a Horton equipped engine is idling - and the fan blades are just sitting there, not even turning.
