Ok, your engines hot and your oil is thinned out

Am I dreaming?

We had strange thing happen today. We went to start in on the first field of soybeans, didn't get half way down the field, and the fuel tank swelled up to the point of destroying the rear body panel. It also bent the fuel tank supports, pushing up the flooring above the fuel tank in the engine bay, and ruined the mechanism that raises up the straw chopper.

The simple problem, the hold down bracket for the injector on the #1 cylinder was in upside down, not allowing the injector to seat properly. There is a line that goes to the fuel tank from the intake manifold. It is supposed to create a little pressure in the tank to prevent the vent from plugging. Was getting to much pressure as to "inflate" the tank.

Have no idea what it will cost to repair. Why it didn't happen to the last owner, we don't know. This was the first day to use this "new" machine.

cummins is about the only good thing about a gleaner. but even with a cummins I still wouldn't own one even if somebody paid me to take one.

ya know why case's are painted red? to match the barns they sit by all year

For the most part we've had great luck with Deere eqipment we run.

We ran a different 9650STS (bought used w/1 season on it) last year. That one still used the in-line f. inj. pump.

When running it, I had 3 problems.

1. Fuel tank vents always plugging (cutting beans mostly), sucked the bottom of the tank in and bent the suction pipe. After cleaning the vents and after a couple of fuel fills later, the tank went back to normal.

2. The valve that controls the backshaft speed when picking corn. Refused to hold the speed it was set at. Dealer refused to fix, even though the previous owner had the same problem.

3. Rotor speed sensor damaged. Wire leads on sensor were rubbed through.

Other than that, it was a MUCH better machine than the 9500 it replaced.

My grandma retired from C-IH. She still gives the watermelon "lecture".

The only good part is the red, the green gets thrown away.

I like both, so I just smile at her. :-laf

Boss talked to the dealer this morning. Sounds like they (Deere) will pay for the damage, as they should. Dealer ordered the parts.

Can't wait. Don't need everybody thinking I backed into something. That, and it will be nice to have the rear taillights back. Move at night quite a bit going to a different field.

Thats why they paint deeres the colors they do. Green for the $100 dollar bills to buy it, and gold for the 24k bullion it takes to fix it.

Sure seems like it alot of times. They do have some parts at halfway reasonable prices.

Someone I worked for while going to school has Deere 530 gas tractor. The dealer wanted something like $50 for the clutch cover. Not all that special, just stamped steel.

In the last few years Ive bought parts for MF, Case IH, Ford NH, Cat, and Deere, the Massey and Ford stuff was highway robbery, Case IH is not to bad and Deere is consistently the most reasonable. I think the dealer makes more difference in price than the brand. I have no ag. dealers within 200 miles so I can pick about anyone and my previous dealer was over 50% higher than my current dealer! For $8K to $10k difference a year and no local support either way well worth shopping around in my case.

Ain't that the way it always starts!

The neighbors have 2 STS's and have had a "few" problems with the one. I guess I just thought they where checking out/making adjustments to the new equipment;) I'll have to do a little nosen around to see what they are up to.

They use to run 2388's and had problems as well... I guess it doesn't really matter what color it is but dealer support can mean a lot.

In our area it seems you pay a 20-30% more green for green parts.

Would be curious what you find out.

Fuel tank aside, this machine, so far, is woking working nicer than the last one. Even though it is the same model as the last machine, it seems to have a little more power. We put a Mauer grain tank extention on it too. Sure is nice having.

It sure can. That is part of the reason we bought this combine and a 8420 from a dealer that is 30 miles away vs. buying them from our local dealer that is 6 miles away. So far, we have been very impressed with this "new" dealer.
