hey roperteacher, congrat on the new truck. My truck was built in Oct 05, I bought it in the end of Feb 06, it had virtually no miles on it, so I think you might be better off than you think. You can check to see how many hours are on it, that might also give you some idea about it having been started every so often and brought up to temp. My truck did have some hours on it that gave me the impression that had taken place.
I changed my oil out early just in case. And like you, do a regular interval that is better than recommended. I have had virtually 0 problems with anything major, hust some annoying little code stuff that the dealer has flashed away. You have a new truck with a warranty and I'm sure your dealer will take care of you without any problems.
The only mods I have done regarding anything engine was a Cool Blue Hose, TAG, and Cool Power mod to the stock airbox AND I installed the Glacial 2-micron fuel filter with the big line kit. My dealer is OK with all that and so are most of them. Better breathing intake and better fuel filtering to protect the injectors. I also installed gauges so I would better understand how the truck is functioning, my first diesel.
Again, CONGRATS on the new truck. Glad you found a truck to trip your trigger. Have fun and enjoy.
