1974 Sovereign

Hi Bob4x4,

My wife and I have owned a 1974 sovereign of the road for just over a year. We are updating the interior and refurbishing most of the systems. The sub floor was rotten, among other problems, when we bought her. I need to update the page, but pictures and listings of our work are online at http://purdygreatlife.weebly.com/airstream.html

We have plans to take her on some trips this summer. I have one more coat of paint for the interior to do then I will build bunks for our kids, a front dinette, and finish the outlandish stereo install (I had 2, 15" subwoofers in the garage from my high school days 15 years ago that still work!).

I need to dig around for the one shot I have of my 12-valve pulling Amelia. It is a larger Airstream than I wanted but we found a good estate sale deal. I find the AirForums to be extremely helpful.

Yes to both. Former service dealer for AS. They sell used only and service and repair lots of stuff now. Family business. The one that I shake my head at is how many Spartans they have, one is 10' wide, actually has a separate 2nd bedroom with a door.

Thanks Bob. Yeah, tows like a dream and sometimes I can't believe it's mine... just an awesome set up. I had a TransferFlow 58 gallon replacement tank put on last summer... LOVE that extra range!

When I started looking at Airstreams I was looking at used ones but the owners all loved them too much. Ended up getting a new one. It looks like it is going to last a long time. It tows so well I never even hook up the sway control that the dealer recommended. Seems unaffected by the gusty winds we have out here in the desert

Yep, my wife and i came to the same conclusion back in '76 when we bought our first one. After looking for a long time, we discovered the used Airstreams were nearly as expensive as new. We purchased our second new one in 1982. We found out how they hold their value when we sold our well traveled '76. We sold our '82 for $500 less than we paid for in in '89. At that time no other RV held its resale value as well.
