Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Anybody disable the wastegate on an HY???

Just curious as to what PSI you would see with an HY35 waste gate disabled, and a Comp box on 5x5.....



Reason I ask is I finally got my trans done, and now I can crank up the Drag Comp and actually hammer on it. But with it up on 5x5 I'm hitting 40psi boost, and my egt's skyrocket past 1600*!!!! I've seen 1700 a few times... I back out very cautiously...



I'm guessing my waste gate is probably stuck closed, but was just wondering if anyone has modified one to be shut all the time and what they had seen.

I had a j hook so its not completley disabeling the wasgate but I was hitting 35 and bleeding off to 30-32. I wouldnt recommend going any higher than 30psi with an hy9. I've got a hx35 off a buddys truck and egts are managable now.

You really need a turbo, the little HY is good to only about 27 lbs, after that it is making heat, not power. SNOKING

What SNOKING said, after you get past the recommended curve of the turbo you are generating waste heat which will drive your egts way up. I would say you need a larger turbo there bud.

Well I figured my high egt's where bein caused by the turbo heating up the air, since I read on here that the efficiency range was around 27-28psi or so for the HY. Guess I need a HX till I get my mach 4's and B1-2 or SPS this summer... . Anybody got one layin round???

Same problem guys. . I've actually hit 48psi on mine,5x5... so I have to run at 1-2 for now to be safe. Making tons of boost and heat 1600 no problem!! I can get an Aurora 2000 from a buddy pretty cheap! Or buy a HTT superstock 62... $$... what do you guys suggest? Thanks

I'd keep that wastegate hooked up,



i disconnected mine on my HX40 and it popped at 50PSI:-laf

I'm not wanting to disable it... I was wondering if it is stuck... lol Was wondering if I was seeing about the same as what the guys have that have disabled them...

Think I'll look for an HX-35 till I get some sticks and a bigger hair dryer...

I will have my stock unit from my 04 but I am waiting on my new turbo to get here. You would need the 04 elbow.

I've got a elbow off an 04 that I don't need. cover shipping and its yours.

I'll take that elbow if it's needed to put an HX on my 2001 to replace the HY.
