On my 4th run Sat at Moroso my flywheel let go about 1/3 of the way down the track. Heck of a noise. Center of the flywheel was twisted away from the rest of the flyweel. Chewed up the aluminum housing that the trans bolts up to but no other damage. The TC was okay, pump in trans was okay and after a year of racing the trans interior parts looked brand new-way to go DTT.

You could look into a ATS Flexplate (Recently SFI Approved) for increased strength. This is not a odd thing to see on flexplates.

Whoa  , I thought you meant flywheel, like manual trans flywheel, I had some horrible mental pictures of what that might look like :D .

Matt

i read that winspeed destroyed his flexplate after the dyno last weekend (racing on the way home). amazing what 600+ hp will do!

I will say that it is one sick sound when it lets go. I thought I had trashed the motor so its a big relief to only lose the flexplate. Mine looks just like the one that piston slapper pointed out. There are a few companies that make flexplates for our trucks that are much stronger than stock. I guess I'll see how they hold up to 600+ hp this season.

Ol Joe, what am I gonna do with ya! :)

I agree with Bill, it's is a relief to find that it's the flexplate. We put an aftermarket double plate in from Suncoast. It has held our 600hp puller for a season and many pavement holeshots with our hotrodding around and burnouts for the boys :D! I think that pavement is what broke it before anyway... . We aren't just real friendly to it sometimes.
