I installed just the coils (D25) in my new truck and I'm getting a funny vibration. I thought it was the tires but I switched to my studded tires and it still does it, althought not as bad. When I had my truck aligned a couple weeks ago the tech said my front driveline angle was almost maxed out. It's pretty close to max. My other truck has the full 2. 5" lift and is pretty close to the max driveline angle as well. The tires are quite noisey in this truck so the vibrations aren't as apparant. I was just wondering if anyone has had driveline or u-joint problems associated with their springs/spacers and would the adjustable control arms help?

TIA

Nathan,

I had the same issue. turned out to be the front drive shaft. pull yours out and see if you still have the problem.

if you do then there isnt much that can be done that I know of other than what I did which was to have a new front drive shaft made.

Bill

I also have had issues with my truck and the D25 coils. I think that on our 02' trucks because the front driveshaft is always spinning the vibration is caused at high speeds. My vibration occurs above 70mph.

Bill what did you do to replace the front drive shaft?

Im not sure if I have the terminoligy correct or not but the factory front shaft has a double ujoint "Saginaw?" at one end. .

Well that end of the shaft we were able to use. The shop replaced the other end with another double ujoint set upto.

We had to chance the companion flange on the front axle as well to accept the new shaft.

Parts and labor were about $600 since it was a custom job.

The guy at the drive line shop said that it was almost exactly like a shaft made by Dana for some Fords but Dana gets over $1k for thiers... I guess their really do give you the shaft. .

Bill

You say that the problem is on the '02's because the drive shaft is always turning, but heres the problem, on my '01. 5, if in 4x4(so the drive shaft is turning), driving at ANY speed with the D25's, I don't have any vibration at all. These springs have been in my truck for 50,000+ miles, and no problems, what gives?

Rob you have the 6-sp. If I remember correctly your drive shaft is back further than my 5-sp so the angle is not as extreme b/c my drive shaft is closer to the front diff.

I have looked at my brothers and noticed the drive shaft length difference.

I'm not sure about the auto's. Does anyone know the length of the drive shafts between the 5-sp, 6-sp, and Auto?

has anyone with an auto had the same trouble ?

I want to install 2" springs up front soon, but not enough to throw the drivetrain off.

Good point CM, ahh yes, another reason to have a 6-speed. :D

Ok, just me thinkin' out loud here, hows this... ... ... ... what about the adjustable cam on the lower suspension arm? The manual states that the pinion angle can be changed via the cam, however I have never done this, just a thought.

I have all three transmission variations in three different trucks so I might go out and measure them all. I'll let you know.

Damon,

The truck that is the worse is my automatic truck. I just drove the 5spd and it does it too but not as bad.

I wonder if you could cut the springs down a 1/2" at a time until you get it to stop? Anyone with another idea? 600 bucks for a new drive shaft seems a little too much too.

Ok here it is

The shortest front drive line is the 5spd 25 3/4" from center of the u-joints. The next longest is the auto at 27 1/2". The 6spd is definately the longest at 31 3/4". The angle on the 6spd w/spring spacers is a lot less than the other two.

What cam are you talking about? I don't remember seeing any adjustment for the pinion on the front axle.

Do you have a picture?

Well when I did my install of the D25 coils I didn't change anything on the cam plate so this may be my issue.

I unbolted my links to completely drop the the axle. I may try to change the cam plate to position the pinion pointed towards the transfer case.

Has anyone done the cam plate adjustment?

-CM

Unless I'm looking at things wrong, adjusting the camplates would change your castor, and not in a way that would be good (i. e. , more darty, less self-centering).

How would adjusting the cam plate effect camber? Seems if you lift your truck off the ground while moving the cam plate that it wouldn't be an issue.

-CM

By repositioning the cam, your rotating the axle, thus changing the pinion angle. Like I said, I haven't done this, this is speculation at this point. The manual doesn't really go into detail about it.
