My D80 LSD is about useless. I'm considering restacking the LSD and staggering more of the plates and frictions so it has more grip. Any ideas on where i can find the procedure to do this? I really don't know much about it, but figure it shouldn't be a hard job to do if i can just get some direction.

Thanks,

Chris

Get in touch with member AlphaCowboy. He did his last year and has some experience with how to (and how not to) stack the plates.

I did this just last week to my dad's truck...

There are enough clutches/drives to alternate the entire stack, you don't end up with two clutches side-by-side...

It is very simple... get the chunk out... unbolt the case half... do one side at a time...

The belleview washer goes in first... then alternate the clutches and drives...

Bolt the halves back together... it is a little tough getting everything aligned, but once you do, you bolt it together, reinstall it...

did it three weeks ago

i re-stacked mine about three weeks ago, should have done it three years ago ;) . it really isn't that hard.

take off the diff pan

remove the bearing caps (4 large bolts facing you)

you may have to pry out the case with the clutch pack and spider gears in it.

be careful of the bearings and shims, they may fall out too, but MUST be put back the way they came out.

take out the case bolts... impact wrech works good.

lift the case off... one stack will proabaly be in the case.

re-stack those as previously listed

pry out the spider gears from the ring gear side and re-stack

put back together!

i found that to tighten the case bolts it is easy to have another person use a bar stuck in the holes of the case to hold the thing while you tighten with a torque wrench.

take your time and pay attention to the detail... the washer have to go back the same way they came out.

took me about 2 hours, to do it again would take much less.

hope that helps! ;)
