With the talk about cracked injector bodies and tips, is the damage visible to the naked eye or under a magnifying glass?? Or is it something that would have to be bench tested and put under pressure to find?

I had cracked tip - Looked just fine to the naked eye. It failed a popoff test, so I had it crack checked with a magnaflux machine, that was the only way we know for sure that it was cracked. . P.

loyd, it can be seen by your eye sometimes but other times testing will show, it mainly happens where the push tube inters the injector body

I have to ask... do you think you cracked yours while using the modded CP3?

If the body was cracked where the connector tube enters would the fuel return back to the tank via the head fuel return channels and have constant low rail pressure as a result?

ifI cracked any, I won't blame it on the cp3. LOL. The only time I have seen any pressure spikes is when I let off the throttle too fast. The truck was making some starnge ticking noises coming home from the dyno event the other night. Not to mention the EGT's are taking longer to cool down and the truck is hard to start at times.

The only thing that bums me out is the truck has had issues every since I got the injectors back from being flowed. Now, since I have ran a pressure box, I am on my own if they are cracked.

to your 2nd question yes you are correct, you would only notice a power loss Oo.

you get what you pay for :-laf

I just changed out all six injectors, they were stock, and replaced with stock injectors from Cummins. The truck finally got where it wouldn't start at all and everything else checked out OK. Of course the dealers shop said the injectors were OK also according to their tests. The truck now starts and runs like it is supposed to. I will find out if any are cracked, I hope not because of the core deposit I'll get back. Replacing injectors is not a cheap undertaking.

Injector, Qty 6, part # BOSO986-435-5, price $408. 75 ea + $198. 00 core deposit, hopefully I'll get that back.

If you get them from Dodge, they will cost you well over $200 more per injector, I got them from Cummins, brand new, not rebuilt. Also injectors from Cummins come with a 12 month, unlimited mileage warranty, from Dodge they come with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty.

The problems I have had with my fuel system lately have made me decide to have as little as possible to do with a Dodge shop and use an independent shop and get the parts directly from Cummins if I can.

it is my understanding that even if they are cracked that bosch still wants them back.

probably... the body/nozzle itself isn't the pricy stuff, the control cartridge on top is where the money is

Yea right they hooked up the DRB what ever to mine and they say "its fine there is nothing wrong with it". 10 miles a gallon and doesnt feel right at all. Something is wrong I tell you.

Yeah, same with mine, said they were all fine, finally after everything was checked OK, and the truck still wouldn't start, I said to heck with the dealer, got them replaced at a local shop. Everything is OK now, the truck runs and sounds and starts like a new one. I'll make my first run with it tomorrow, a rig move so it will be a heavy load. Moral of the story is don't believe everything the dealer tells you. Also, for engine parts, get them from Cummins if at all possible, around half the dealer price, and a better warranty.

I've had 10 cracked injectors so far and all have cracked between the center of the nozzel and the re-turn flow hole of tips. First four had a ramafire box used for 3weeks and the next six had Edge EZ(used for six months) Talked to diesel dynamics about it and found out that the ez has some secret jumper set up that makes crazy power but super high rail pressure thats verry unsafe for injectors(468hp with DD2's 62/14) and when you have 4 gallons of diesel in the crank case you might have the jumpers set on it. I have paid out of pocket for all injectors and labor so my advise would say no to pressure boxes. My truck is a 04 ctd 3500 srw laramie
