What do you recommend for a shop/garage ceiling?

shop/garage doors - roll up vs standard garage door.

I recently ok actually about a year ago changed some out to led. I had some 4ft t8s and a couple of 8fts. I had to rewire an cut the ballast out, but other than that pretty much plug and play. I have about 8 that are still florescent in the shop and every time I turn the LEDs on I think I need to change the others the brightness is so much better than the T8s.

I did that on a few 4 footers. Got the LED's at Home Depot. They came with instructions to remove the ballast and rewire.

NOT LED but.....Several years ago I swapped out all 4' t-12 to t-8 bulbs in my garage - went with Phillips since home depot had them on sale. Phillips ballast and bulbs. Same fixtures, just replaced the guts. Being the anal person I am I measured watts saved to determine payback time for all the lights (about 50 bulbs) - figured 2.5 years if certain hours used per day/days week/etc. Also put an hour meter on to know was my calculation correct.

I had to replace 30 bulbs within 1000 hours of use. So much for saving money. With the t-12 I replaced about 5 bulbs in the 15 years prior.

I will NEVER again buy Phillips anything.

Now again - that was not the LED, but.....that was my experience.

I have never tried LED bulbs that don't require a ballast.

When we built our house, I put 8 foot T 12 in the garage. They are fine if it is warm. I got some 4 foot LEDs from my true value store a few years ago and they are bright at any temperature. As the T 12s burn out, I am replacing them with 4 foot LEDs.
When we built our shop, I ended up using T eights because of the cost. I wanted to use LEDs, but it was choice of the lights or a lift. I couldn’t do both.

When I installed the lights in my shop I used some old T8 housings my dad had and removed the ballasts and wired them for ballast bypass hyperikion LED's. They have been perfect. IIRC they were about 9.50/bulb and are 2200 lumens.

Link works for me.

These are them, but I got a better price directly from Hyperikon.

I wonder if you have to be signed in to your own Amazon account for that link to work??

^^^ STILL not white working as a link, pretty sure that it is due to the newer forum software NOT allowing ads??

Anyway, with the addition info from your last post, I DID find them and they look pretty much PnP (my favorite kind of upgrade) ....Think that I'll start to try them as my shop T8 bulbs fail.

The links work just fine from my phone and my laptop, but the last posting from Mike is a photo, not a link.

I got all that.... but after I found the LED lamps he was taking about by using the detailed info from the screenshot he posted, I myself tried to post the link to the actual item webpage by copying and pasting the http like I always have, and when I posted it back here, the link came up just like Mikes did-- NO link with the simple word -- ad#

Of course I could be wrong about the forum software and instead it is a new Amazon software issue, but I would think that Amazon would make it as EZ as possible to post links to items on their website....but what do I know???

I'm interested in switching out some of my lights, what's your thought on the light quality of LEDs? I've seen some that if you look up at them you see spots for 30 minutes or so. what I call 'harsh' light

Dunno about the Phillips tubes but I've bought "Great Value" LED tubes @ Wal-Mart and had excellent luck with them in troffer & "shop light" fixtures. No rewiring or bypassing ballasts needed- they're "plug & play". About $50 for an 8 tube pack.
