I'm not looking for an obnoxiously large exhaust tip or something that's gaudy or sound changing, etc... I just feel like there's some "look" to be given rather than that matte steel colored piece of metal behind the tire. I was thinking of adding a black tip just big enough to make it over the stock pipe. Anyone done anything like this, and it doesn't look obnoxious?

I installed a 5" stainless steel tip off Amazon. The heat from regens and SCR have stained it, but not going to change it out. Chrome may do better. I'm like you, I like a conservative tip...there's some out there 6" - 9 " that look like crap.

It doesn't look bad at all. Since I'm at a traffic light and can't measure... what is the diameter of the pipe at the tip? 5"?

Make sure it's "dual walled", then it won't discolor from the heat. I have the MBRP 5" dual wall one on this truck and the last two. Never an issue with quality or coloring.

The clamp is incorporated into the tip. You can see the bolt at the top in the pic. it was like $40 and free shipping.

Black could discolor. Mine was $32.85, not sure more expensive is better. Mine had functional purpose... the stock short pipe melted the dealer mud flaps that came on the truck. The black aren't much more... I'd go for it and if the do discolor, no biggie. Mine stays dirty we live down 1/4 mile calecha road.

Another vote for an MBRP stainless 5" tip, though mine is a turndown exhaust tip!!
Very few people run a turndown tip on these trucks but I love it.

nothing wrong with a downturn except I angled mine at a 45' to the back on my 3500 and 4500 before I stacked them. Ron

Have you thought of painting it?

Not sure, but rattle can of super high temp stuff should work. Even if had to redo after a time, can of paint is cheaper than a tip. Tips I have had don't last long on the gravel roads I drive.

Interesting... he gets a deep sound without being deleted? Would be interested in knowing more about what he got...

He thinks it's a MBRP tailpipe. It starts at 4" and before the axle it expands to 5" up n over the axle and out to the side. He took heat shield from old pile and added to 5" and added more heat shield to the factory rear air bag air line. It really does sound good!

The factory pipe shrinks to 3.5" over the axle so the new pipe opens it up.

He thinks it was around $150.

Isn't that "FULL IMAGE" beautiful???

Oddly enough, the 5" exhaust tip arrived and wasn't close to fitting. Now that I check, mine is 4" at the exit... how strange when others have 5!
