The next truck I buy won't be another 4WD. We don't get that much snow up here and I don't go off-road. If a guy likes a higher sitting truck (like me), mount taller tires. Fabtech makes a bunch of different lift kits for 2WD.

Headaches you give up with 2WD :

1. ) Transfer Case

2. ) Track Bar

3. ) Front differential

4. ) Axle Seals

5. ) Axle U-Joints

6. ) 4WD Hub Bearings

7. ) Upper and lower Links

Not to mention a lower price for 2WD, A lighter and better handling truck. Easier & Cheaper maintenance and better mileage.

I'm Done w/ 4WD.

I agree

For a daily driver it's not worth it. I've been driving around the woods and fields with 2WD for a long time. I'm sure there are a lot of folks who NEED it, but I think most don't.

That being said, I may eventually get a 4WD, but it won't be my daily driver. It'll be for hunting, mudding, pulling, BOMBING, hanging stacks on...

The problem is that it's dang near impossible to find a 2WD 3/4 Cummins truck. I know it took me four weeks or hard searching to find the one I have now. And I had to drive to TX to get it. And since June 8 (when I got mine) I've seen all of two other Cummins 2WD 3/4's in TN.

I might have found ten (within 700 miles) 2WD 3/4's in that month of POUNDING the web and phone every single day. Oh yeah, that doesn't include AUTOmatics. I'm done with those as well, but then I never started...

The good news is that 3500 2wd's are more common.

Can't live without it up here in western NY if you want to reliably get to work. I tried it for awhile with a 2wd '85 D350. . It had posi so it did OK, but whenever there was a snow storm it was a fight to get anywhere.

I agree that most of us rarely have to use 4WD. IMO, if you need it just once to get out of a tight spot, it's worth the extra money.

Years ago I had the need for 4WD. Once in the snow, and the other time in mud. Those two episodes convinced me.

First time i backed my 5er up on wet grass

i had to use 4 wheel drive.

As long as I,m driving a CTD and towing

I,ll have 4x4. This is my first 4x4 in 50 years

of driving. Not counting the Army.

Have a good one

Frank

2WD

I bought my 2WD because I have not needed 4WD in ten years and that was only to run the beach. Love the way it looks and handles. I tow 11000 lb. 5'er with it and it is great. Only once would I have wanted 4WD and that was in a WV campground. Turned out I dodn't need it. Next one will be 4WD as you never know. We plan on some long camping trips during the next few summers and then semi full timing it in summers.

4wd

I've only needed my 4wd twice and that was to pull a buddy's F**D out of the mud and another buddy's CH*VY out of a ditch... ... ... ... truth be known I shouldn't have locked it in to pull the CH*VY!!!!haha It's there when I need it... .....

The ONLY reason I got 4wd was for the gear reduction of low range for maneuvering trailers around my small lot. If reverse would not have been geared so high, would have got 2wd. I drive beaters for go to work (always have been 2wd) and in 28 years I have missed only one day due to bad/snowy roads.

I bought it for three reasons. I could not get to my home when it snowed in the winter without it. Plus it looks better (that's just my opinion). Plus better resale. I would buy it even if I did not need it in the winter. It is not alway about what you need, it's what you want ;)

Headaches you give up with 4 wheel drive:

1] Want to go real slow, backing a trailer, etc.

2] Are you stuck? Put it in 4X4.

3] Worth a lot more when its time to sell.

4] Front end collision? That much more protection.

5] Don't have to waste time and money trying to look like a 4X4

with lift kits.

6] Heavier, more solid truck.

7] Women love 4X4s

8] My 4X4 gets over 20 mpg

9] Can drive home without the rear drive train.

10] Strong front axle.

11] I guess thats enough

i rarely need 4wd, but when i do need it, i want to have it. in winter, we usually get a few days when 4wd will get you going better [but good dedicated winter rubber will stop you best in both 2wd & 4wd. none of that all season tire crappola]

i really never use 4wd in summer, except for when towing one trailer to a kids summer camp, where 2wd will get it to the beach, but you need 4wd & tires that grip to get it out...

Been in the pipeline and oil production business all my life and need 4WD to get down the ROW. So used to having it will probably always keep one. Have only put the 2001 in 4WD a couple of times in the year plus I've owned it and didn't really need it then, just checking. Will have a 4WD in the parking lot of the Rest Home just in case I make an unexpected recovery.

I've been driving for over 20 years, and this is my first 4x4. I dont regret it one bit.

We dont get much snow here in south jersey, but I occasionally tow a TT and really like the gear reduction for backing up.

I drove this truck for 85K miles, and not one problem with the 4x4.

Granted, I've probibally only driven it in 4x4 for 100 miles.

I dont know if my next truck will be 4x4, I need to drive this one another 300-400K miles before I decide.

Ia spend time in the desert and in the mountains, even on the beaches in Baja. I seldom need 4x4 but there are times that it has saved my bacon. This not my only 4x4 I also have a Cherokee and a Comanche. Of my 6 trucks only one has remained 4x2. I have converted 2 '58 Chevys to 4x4.

4x4...can't imagine a truck without it

We don't get much snow here in Virginia but I could not do without my 4WD. We travel quite a bit year round and do head up North very often. We also 4wheel off road and on the beaches of the OBX... having 4WD was one of the most important options for me to get on our truck... :D

4x4

:D I will always buy 4x4, its nice knowing it is available if needed. a friend of mine has 99 quad cab 2 wheel, that will get stuck on wet grass!!!!!!!!!i always remind him why i have a 4 wheel:D :D

I rarely need it, but it allows me to go places comfortably, that I would be afraid to try without it. The reason I bought this truck was to tow a travel trailer and spend more time traveling with the family. Sometimes we just go north for some snow and it's great then.

I love my 4 x 4

We live on five acres and use the 4 x4 year around the yards has rolling hills and the truck slips a lot without it. Also the black ice is bad in the winter. My wife swears by the 4 x4 and it great pulling the powerstrokes out of the ditched\s.
