Such as the tire rack or ??

Just curious - since I should be able to save some $$ compared to tire prices around here.

I have used these services, but only when buying wheel/tire combos. I have found that after shipping and mounting charges are applied you actually pay more. But that's economics you can figure out. I have had good luck, just check shipping before you order.

I ordered replacement tires for my 1996 3500 dually from Tire Rack. Even with installation and shipping, they were substantially cheaper than I could buy the same tires here in the Houston area.

Good Point on the shipping - I'll look into that!

As for mounting and balancing - I do my own. I use to be a mechanic and refused to sell any of my tools! Now it is just a hobby - sometimes I wish it was my job again cause my current boss is... . well you know.

the best prices I have found were at www.discounttiredirect.com The price I got was for Michelins for my wifes jeep. Prices for Michelins for my truck were not extra special. Anywhere you order tires from ask if they are Blems. Michelin says there is nothing wrong with them except a cosmetic mark that you may not be able to see anyway. They should be cheeper though. I have used Tire Rack a few times, no problems. Anymore though, with disposal and mounting fees, the locals will come close if not match the prices. And if I have a problem, I know where to go and who to talk to.

National Tire & Wheel shipped 36" tires UPS for less than $14 per tire from West Virginia to Michigan. If you can mount and balance your own that might be the way to go, especially if you're looking for something other than stock size/tread.

When I bought the tires for my car (also a diesel) I first went to tirerack, put 4 in my shopping cart, let them figure out shipping, then printed this out. then remove them from your cart. Take the printout to your local tire dealer and ask "if I bring in my own tires, how much do you want to mount and balance them?".

Then show them the printout. Tell them "I am going to buy these tires, then bring them to you to have them mounted and balanced, or you could sell them to me for the same price I would have to pay the tirerack including shipping" They will go for it. play your cards right and they may even beat the deal.

I have bought from tire rack many times for performance car tires and have often saved money. We have an excellent tire SERVICE dealer and nowdays I always try to buy from them locally. Its like purchasing anything, you can save money sometimes, but where would you get them mounted and balance, and flat repairs if they went out of business because everyone bought mail order? I like dealing locally when it makes sense, but if you can save big $$ then this is a decision only you can make. I remember the old time hardware stores where you could buy just 2 bolts or whatever; instead of prepackaged stuff usually containing more than you need(from great places like Wallmart, etc. ) Well, I guess that I had better stop here, as I am dating myself. Heck I may have started something here. Was just stating my very honest opinion based on my own personal experiances.

I used National Tire and Wheel also for some tires and received them within two days. They had the best prices and fastest service I could find. I was going on a trip that week-end and needed them bad. It also helped that I had a buddy that mounted and balanced them for me, so you'll save alot there.

I bought the same tires as DodgeTorqueWagon has , Denman Coyote 305/85R16's from National Tire and Wheel. No complaints. I'd do it again. About $16. 50 S&H per tire from WV to CT.

I ordered a set of BBS wheels and performance tires mounted and balanced from the Tire Rack. This combination was far cheaper than anything that I could find locally. Best thing was that when they arrived, I just bolted them on and tried them out :D. Even the UPS guy was impressed how they were shipped.

I looked into buying from the Tire Rack. After I added shipping, mounting and balancing, I found a better deal at a local tire store that gave me lifetime free rotate and balance every 4000 mi. This was a far better deal.

Don't just look at the price today, but what it will cost over the life of the tires.
