Anyone experience transmission problems caused by double disc clutches?

16cm housing is what A/R?

I have never heard of any problems related to the lack of springs in the discs. THe problems always seem to relate to the high power of the motor or the 40,000 lb sled the truck is hooked to. Either way, yes the lack of a sprung hub disc will accelerate the wear in the transmission but given the increased torque that requires the DD clutch it will most likely not be noticed

I can feel it taking a toll on my syncros but I figure with the power I'm putting through it I'll have to be in there for another set of bearings before the syncros give me too much trouble.

How many miles do you have with the DD? Which clutch? 3600 12cb?

do you think my 2-3 shift issue could be due to the wear on the bearings?

The clutch will definitely take a toll on the transmission. But so will pushing 500hp/1000ftlbs sledpulling a $40k pickup truck!! :-laf :-laf

Possible but not likely. With our shimming the shaft up tight again we've removed the slop from the system which may have contributed to the syncro's easier engagment..... just a guess.

When you get to the power level of a double disk clutch its a give and take.

I can't believe how hard it is for me to choose a clutch. Every time I've settled on the DD, I keep hearing about potential issues due to the direct drive.

I have 35k miles, and will probably keep my truck until it has way over 100k. I want a clutch to hold 500 +/- hp that will also be driveable and put up with some horsing around. I originally was going to get the FE, but I keep hearing it's an on/off switch. Not really interested in that as I'm picking up a 30' TT.

How soon am I going to be rebuilding the NV5600 if I'm not doing any sledpulling? I may be doing some stoplight games, but that's it.

I think I will stay on the fence a while longer with this. I am going from 65hp injectors to 150's, adding more air with the twins, and another 100cc of pump. I was at 500 before on the PDR dyno and I figure this new stuff may take me up to maybe 525 or 550 on Imlars dyno. I'll see if it slips before I worry any more about it.

When I install my DD, I freshened up the transmission (new bearings and syncros). At 10K, there was a significan amount of brass floating in the oil - much more that I had seen before. Now, was that a function of a rebuild, the DD, or both, I dunno... .

Peter is the one that told me to not sell his DD unless it was needed. He said the lack of springs sent spikes through the trans. I know that 3rd and 4th gear launches will kill trannys. 470 hp it will hold fine, 600 hp daily driven sucks big time and mine slipped like crazy. Much easier to install, but it slipped like crazy with hardly with one hook. . That clutch made a fool out of my truck at the pulls in Sonora. Going with an auto now and at leasts then i can put down 600 hp instead of 200, lol. I have two 3800# DD sitting on the shop floor if any wants them. One is perfect and the other has seen better days, both have the new bronze liner.

Wow Reb, sorry you felt the fool with our clutch. BigBadDodge lives in your neck of the woods and won 4 pulls in a row with our clutch. Click here to see if he was a fool.

I think he has a little more then 600hp. Wait, it reads 865 RWHP! Heck, Gene AKA (sledpuller) won the DHRA points for 2005 with our DD. I think he is around the HP you are talking about. One clutch, full season, multiple pulls, and still driving with it.

Shawn Hodges... same clutch, close to 40 pulls, in the upper 600hp maybe 700 still going.

Maybe truck, maybe driver, maybe clutch? Did you call me?

Send them back... I would be glad to take them off your hands.

Any solid hub clutch is more of a specialty item than a sprung hub clutch, even for gassers. The forces involved are harder on the trans and the input shaft. If you need the clutch durability and holding power, you take the compromise. Peter's DD is as user-friendly as one can be.

For up to 600 hp on the Dynojet, street driving every day, hunting trails, towing my trailer, I am happy with the con-FE and have recommended it to others who are pushing around or over 400 hp.

Shoot Peter just send em' North as I'll find homes for them, save on the S&H back East! People continue to ask me how mine holds, no pulls but 2 years daily driven installed at under 400rwhp and I've been over 600 for quite some time now saw a high of 692. 5RWHP at PDR's Dyno Day in Sept! I can't say there isn't better out there, I just don't have a reason to look!! Thank You Peter

I put mine through full throttle hell when I went to Glamis, it still holds just fine. As a matter of fact, I think I just broke it in at Glamis. I had about 700 miles on it and it was still a bit grabby until after Glamis. Now it's easy to start out with.

I was running with the comp on 5x3 (5x5 is too much smoke) and pushing apprx 500 to 550 HP through it. Held just fine. Front axle didn't though...
