I replaced my original Goodyear Wranglers on my '95 at 55K and they could have gone another 10, maybe 15K, but we were going on a long trip to Florida and I didn't want to chance them. The second set were Dunlop Rovers and they were wearing better then the Goodyears. My new truck has American Generals. Anyone know what I can expect with these?

I know this is way off course, but my Good Year Warngler SRA's only lasted about 30,000 miles and I'm not that hard on them. I hated them in the wet weather and we have a lot here in NC. I would be easy on them starting out in wet weather, but they would still spin, that's why I don't think they lasted. Anyway, I tried the Firestone Transforce HT's and these have been great. I haven't hydoplaned yet and they grab, and even though I haven't tested them yet in the snow, it seems the tread patteren is really good for it as good as you can get on a big truck tire. I would recommend these tires to a friend. Also if you go to Tirerack.com a lot of people have had good luck with these things... . On a scale from 1 to 10 they rank a 9. just my . 02

You know, I respect what you are saying about Firestone, But after the Firestone/Ford Explorer sour grapes incident, I don't think I would ever trust them.

Just had new ones put on yesterday... . had around 32000 miles on the old tires and they still have at least 5000 miles left but not enough for this winter, they are Terra Trac A/W 235-85-16 this has been the only tire that i have gotten a years worth of service out of that were not worn out in less than 7months, i have had warranty tires 50 and 60K and they did not last this long. . of course your driving area and the roads make a difference, the curvy mountain roads here are murder on tires just about every 1/2 mile is a curve of some degree. .

The Terra Trac's are made by Hercules and for $83. 60 mounted and balanced i cannot complain, and they do very well off road as well. After this winter im putting the old set back on to run them out as i have 2 sets of rims which comes in very handy.

The stock Michelins that came on the truck only made it to 28000 miles and were shot, thats the difference in areas' of the country as some are getting 50-60K miles out of those tires.

Stock Michelins: 55k with room left. Rotated 3 or 4 times. Awful in the rain.

305/70 R16 BFG Mud Terrain: +,- 45k Maybe another 5k left. Rotated 3 or 4 times. No complaints. Thought I wanted something quieter.

285/75 R16 Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revo's: 19k and counting. Rotated once  I should get another 20k. Great in rain and snow but disapointing in the mud.

I will most likely go back to a mud tire next time. I don't do much off road but for me it's kind of like packin' heat. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

That is my thinking to I think I will either trade up to Cooper s/t or Toyo m/t when I get enough money together. This turned out to be a good thread I appreciate the interest. I think we all want the perfect tire and I thought I found it with the Nitto t/g but they cant handle weight or the power of my truck so I am shopping again.

Had a set of Bridgestone A/T 285-75-16's which I loved for ride quality except for extreme suseptability to tread area cuts( two replaced under warranty) then finally a catastrophic failure at 65mph(complete tread separation and blowout). $3500 damage in 10 seconds. Bridgestone had a recall on these but I chucked the receipt upon purchase of BFG's. The place I purchased them from went under so Bridgestone would not honor the recall(understandably). In defense of Bridgestone these were "D" rated shoes so I share the blame. The BFG's ride like rocks but appear very sturdy and are made in the good ol' USA and will probably wear great!

misaligned axle

On my 2001 T. D , i could only get 20,000 mile out of the rear tires. Because I was eating them up, I did not rotate. Michelin warranted 20,000, I paid for the rest. At 80,000 a body shop buddy showed me the problem. The rear axle was misaligned at the factory, you measure from front to rear hub on each side.

I was off by 1/4" I sold the truck at 120,000 (12 tires) & bought an 03. Current milage is 116,000. i have replaced the original BFG at 80,000 due to winter driving. could have gone more..... Current tire look new with 36000 on them. Norbe

I just replaced my rear Mich LTX M/S load range e tires today. They had a little over 99k on them and were just above the wear bars. The fronts that are on it have 79k on them and were put on when the previous pair had 150k. I expect them to last another 70k. Nearly all my driving is highway, about 70 % towing.

I run a lot of gravel and quarzite chip sealed oil, and am averaging just over 55,000 per set of BFG AT's in sizes 285/75R16 and 315/75R16.

Got 90K on the original Michelin LTX M/S. Rotated them at least every 10K miles and most of them were highway driving. Replaced them with the same thing, just a couple sizes bigger.

I had a 98 Z71 with 33'' BFG AT's, had around 80,000 on the tires when I sold the truck. The tires still had over half tread, I rotate every 3,000 miles. I also had an 86 Olds Cierra that I bought a set of generic Sears tires that had a 19,000 mile rating on them. I rotated every 3,000 miles and the tires lasted over 100,000 miles.

I got over 72000 miles on my orginal set of Michelin LTX's. No uneven wear, etc. I rotated every 6000 miles for the first 40000 miles or so, then stopped. I replaced them with identical tires. 11000+ miles so far and they still look new. They are expensive, but very worth it.

I am still on my original factory set of Michelin LTX M/S tires, and just hit 98K miles. The things aren't even 1/2 worn down yet!!! Darn things are starting to show sidewall cracking from age. I bought my truck new in Sepotember 2000.

I should also say that I have had to replace two of them due to nasty rocks that punched through my sidealls on various hunting trips in Colorado and new Mexico... but back in 2003 I bought a full second set of all 4 OEM tires from a local TDR member who had upgraded to 18" wheels and tires. His had arounf 20K miles on them when I bought them. I sold two of them to another TDR member near me who was looking to get a set of tires & wheels for his trailer that would match his truck's tires/wheels.

So, to be more accurate, I probably have well over 60K miles on each of the 6 OEM Michelin's I have. I regularly rotate all 6 tires in and out of use every ~10K miles when I change oil.
