Guys, as I surf around looking for things for our site/trucks, I come across lots of stuff that may have potential for us. When I find something, I try to decide if it applies, or may have use in our application. Then, I usually ask permission to reprint or copy/paste to our Forum. I've never been refused consent so far, which says a whole lot about the CTD group.
Ok, first the credit does go to fellow CTD'rs who have done this mod. I first noticed a few fellows on the other site, Diesel Truck Resource, who have had success with it. In fact guys, the moderator over there has been really great about allowing me to share with you, some of the post info and tips they discover. Thanks to OkieBronkRider, Old Smokey and others for the great spirit and sharing of info they have shown.
I have made a number of inquiries about this mod, both to some who have done it and to some who have used this mod in their businesses.
The high idle screw will allow you to increase your top end RPM on the pump, but it does not allow a proper increase in the defuel point which should correspond to the higher idle. You do have a slightly higher defuel, but not in proper ratio, as I am led to understand.
The gov spring we're looking at extends the RPM and correspondingly correct defuel to abut 3000RPM. Your defuel may a touch lower than that, but it will be correctly related to that higher RPM, were the high idle screw runs the WOT RPM up and the defuel does not follow along quite right.
Again, that is my understanding of it, and I'd appreciate anyone who can describe it more correctly if I'm off the mark.
Lastly, I wanted to try it before suggesting this to everyone. I do not want to waster your time, money and expectations to find it's too much work/$$ for the effort if the high idle screw is darn near the same affect.
One more thing, I am NOT going into business, marketing, or anything that even remotely resembles this. All I want to do is find ideas/things that work well, try them, and then offer to take the rest of you along for the ride if you're inclined to try it. I'd really like to see the entire 1st gen group/family have some nice sleepers that surprise the heck outta people.
I may find that I need to move this thread if the guidelines require it. Since this is not related to any vendor, promotion, or sales I think it can stay here, but keep your eyes peeled just in case it is moved.
Bob.
