I believe shortly there after he spent a whole weekend running 11. 80's at Thompson and was told not to come back until it had a cage in it. To my knowledge it still doesn't have a cage so that has ceased the on track testing, now it is just a grocery getter. I believe you could call Thompson Dragway and confirm that if you would like.

anyone who dosen't respect John Russin ,and his knolage of p-pumps ,and cam design is totaly in denial of the real world. to see the difference look at the vidio of my run a BG on one side of the tree , old school technoilgy and cam design, or lack there of, and on the other the results of many hours of conversation with John. notice spool up at the hit of the throtal. By Johns on words he dosent mess with street squirls

if you can get john to help you, and even answer the phone , and you wallet is deep enough , you will get one of the best 5. 9 cummins. If I didn't have Ray that iswhere I would go.

a lot of the ideals in the cams here are Johns, he also gets somthing from me when I sell a cam, unlike others that have out and out lifted his designs. for an all out cam you will still have to call him up, and hope he will talk to you , after you convence him of the genuineness of your project.

excuse the typing , im in Vegas on the web TV lol getting ready to tie the knot

Comp, You're the reason I called and I appreciate the advice. . I didn't want anyone to take my post as he couldn't do good work. . He may have thought I was just a bench racer of some sort that didn't know what I had. . I just needed a cam. . I didn't want to ruffle any feathers, just share experiences. .

 Tis good to hear this side of it.

Some shops can help you out with whatever questions you may have- and some are either too small and are always busy that they can't be bothered:{ ..... And some you may need to melt their phone down with call backs for help:rolleyes: :-laf . Thanks for posting you experience, Morse, John has a small operation, I hear, so its a safe bet that he is always busy... ... and may need his phone melted some before you get through to him with your needs... ... :-laf

So for arguing sake I tried one cam idea and it didn't work (a few people know what I'm talking about) so I'm going to pull my cam and try another very soon. If you guys really want to know if Greg's cam will work how about you'll make a (try Greg's cam out) fund for me and cover half the cost, I'll cover the other half and do the labor for the swap... ... . sound fair enough!

Jim

Jim,

I hope someone else will put into the pot. Because I sure won't.

Here's why.

1. All my money is wrapped in my half-ton project.

2. I already know Greg's cam grinds work great. :D

So, its kind of a suckers bet. :D

If it wasn't for those two reasons I'd sure chip in. But, I'll be happy to help with the labor side.

Later,

Wes

P. S.

Congats Greg on your new "restricted" status.

Remember Greg, there are 3 rings to marriage:

1. Engagement Ring

2. Wedding Ring

3. Suffering

Hey after 20 years, you may as well get "formal".....

Greg,

What about the fact you are running a large single turbo with lots o' nitirous and we are running twins without spraying the hell out of them? Yeah, the cam sures plays into it, but you didn't mention the other variables. :D

Nevertheless, you said your motor was stock, meaning??? The point is, if I had played a staging game and not let you stage last, or the Auto Start was in place, as it will be at any NHRA race, you would have been times out. The object is not about what can you build, but will it be competitive in a real drag race. The answer was apparent when the win light came on. This standing tall on #2 only and nothing but water is a false premise, in that a second turbo is an additional power adder also. Cam design plays a big factor is spool, and the track ability of a diesel drag racing engine.

Now about this stock engine, vs my engine, name an exotic part in my engine, besides a dry sump , which in it self is not a power adder, that isn’t in yours

Wrong thread for the motor comparison. This thread is where you are bashing Keatings old school technology and cam design. You are also talking about a guy that prior to 6 weeks ago, never ran a pro tree or against anyone. This truck was built to see just what Keating could do (since he builds his own stuff), and not to be top dawg... . just so happens that this old technology was enough to get the fastest MPH in a drag truck.

Keatings words to you prior to the race were don't screw me and I won't screw you... or something very close to that. I can't ask him as he is at Steele making passes in the truck as I write.

When he built this truck 3 years ago, Keating kept talking about how a single with nitrous would spool right away versus the twins.

Just purchased one of Greg's cams for my 12 valve. I will say he was more than willing to give me any technical advice I needed and gave me a good deal. Looking forward to getting the ol' girl running again!

97 4x4 2500 SLT ext cab/ 252,000 mi/ #8 plate/ Lukes linked/ 35" Claws/ straight piped/ 3 GSK, head stud kit, Greg Hogue cam, Diprocol Optix gauges, DIY port job, and 17. 5 or 18* timing on the way/ Goerend transmission & converter by end of summer :)

Hey Jim,

You know after thinking about it a bit more. If you want to try one of these cams out then hit me up. I'll go half way in with you to put these arguments to rest.

I've had numerous P. M. s that have said things like "You just say they're good because you sell them. " and "Put your money where your mouth is you XXXXX".

So, for everybody out there. Here it is. If Jim wants to try one out I'll go half and half right down the middle. Half of the cost of the cam and I'll even split the labor if he wants to bring it to my shop.

Wes

That would be a hard deal to pass up!

Just curious, why would you buy a cam that is dyno proven to have less HP by a considerable amount than several others, and has proven itself to lose1/4 time in Gregs ride.
