Anyone using a Frantz Fuel Filter?

Twins piping-- where to get it?

How about you Gary? Can we expect another excellent write up on the Fuel Filter? Anyone running one throw in your input please.

I haven't read up on them - if they're patterned after their oil filters, I would look closely at flow rates to avoid fuel starvation to the rest of the system...

I'll hafta check them out...

I sent them a email requesting info - will post their response when it arrives - shucks, if it's the same filter, only without the restriction, I *could* use the spare one I already have... :D

Interesting...

Doubt that it will flow fast enough for our application, but will keep an open mind.

Does this mean the next Group Purchase will be for Scotts 1000 sheet rolls?? Oo.

WELL, since I usually pump all new fuel into my in-bed tank, then transfer from there into the main tank, I *could* run that flow thru a Frantz - flow rate is not an issue there, and if it takes a few minutes longer for cleaner fuel, no big deal.

OR, since I use a presssure reducing bypass line on my added pusher pump, I could plumb THAT line thru a Frantz filter for constantly circulating filtered flow:

HMMMmmmm. ;) :D

The best lube oil and fuel filter is a Motor Guard of Manteca, CA. They compress the element and seal it at both ends. They have to have Nylatron seals installed to convert to fuel. That is what I do. I just pulled one off a 6. 0 Powerstroke and it is going on a new Dodge Cummins. The main advantage of the Motor Guard is it is a one pass filter which is what you need for fuel. You dont want anything to reach the stock filters.

I use a flammable sticker and a VITON O-RING for fuel. The Motor Guard can handle vaccum or pressure without leaking.

I'm still waiting for a reply from Frantz on their "fuel filter" - and construction differences between the standard oil filter and the fuel filter is what I am very much interested in - as well as the spec on flow rates. The Motor Guard sounds interesting as well, and we get down to Manteca pretty regularly, so it would easy to check on their product

Actually, after some thought, I am personally leaning towards doing as I suggested above, and use an added filter such as the Frantz or Motor Guard in a bypass configuration, probably replacing the pusher pump bypass shown above, and then returning the filtered fuel back to the tank instead of right back to the pusher inlet. The way our pusher and stock lift pumps work, fuel is actully circulated thru the electric motor that powers the pump, resulting in motor wear particles and carbon particles from the brushes being introduced into the fuel stream. A one-pass filter will hopefully catch those as they flake off - but a bypass would be constantly RE-cleaning the fuel, and provide better protection.

I just got off the Phone with Deborah Walker Harley of Frantz filters, here's what we got:

I have a Frantz fuel filter on the way - my intention is to rig a test setup using that filter, along with my spare stock lift pump and fuel pressure guage to monitor fuel flow thru that filter at various pressures. If that filter is capable of the 45 GPH or so needed to properly supply the VP-44 at maximum demand, I will then install it in full-flow mode - if it looks the least bit marginal, I'll probably go the bypass route mentioned in the post above.

The Frantz fuel filter is specially designed in that all hoses and fittings are larger, at 3/8 inches for increased flow, and the filter canister locking mechanism is of a different design if I remember correctly - will know more when the hardware arrives.

All the above will be documented and photos taken, and a report made directly to Deborah and to this group...

Now, we wait! ;) :D :D
